The 1350 Augsburger Bible has the comma. It reads:

^[8] Wann drei sint di da geziuchnüsse gebent in d' erden d' geist wazz' un bluet, und dis drei sint ainz. ^[7] und drei sint di da geziuchnüsse gebent i dem himel. det vat'. d' sun od' daz wort, un d' hilige geist. und dis drie sint ainez. [1]

The Augsburger Bible contains a unique reading in that it reads neither "son" nor "word" exclusively, but rather "the son or the word" - "d' sun od' daz wort."

It has verse 7 after verse 8 as the printed 1466 Mentelin Bible does.

Pre Lutheren Printed German Bibles

The first German bible to be printed was the Mentelin Bible. While this edition contains no information about the printer or the date of printing, it has been revealed by the types used that it was produced in the Strasbourg workshop of Johann Mentelin (1410‒1478) in about 1466. A note at the end of the book, folio 400 verso, says “This book was bought unbound for the price of 12 florins on 27 June 1466.” The name of the Augsburg merchant and councilman Hektor Mülich (Who is assumed to have died circa 1489 or 1490) and his Ottilia Conzelmann (who died in 1467) is inscribed underneath the coats of arms. In 1787, Gerhoh Steigenberger who was a Munich court librarian, was able to prove that the bible of Heinrich Eggestein, also of Strasbourg, was simply a reprint of Mentelin’s edition with some omissions.

The Comma was omitted from the German bible during Luther's lifetime, and inserted into the German text for the first time in 1574 by a Frankfurt publisher.

The 1466 Mentelin Bible has verse 7 after verse 8, as the 1350 Augsburger Bible does:

^[8] Wann drey seind die gebent gezeug auf der erde, der geist, wasser, ond blut, ond dise drey seind ein. ^[7] Vnd drey seind die gebent gezeug im himel, der vatter, das wort, ond der heilig geist; ond dise drey seind ein. [2]

Luther

Perhaps Luther’s greatest accomplishment was the the Luther Bible. In a very short period of time while in hiding in Wartburg, he translated the New Testament, and then later, the Old Testament. However, it is a myth that Luther was the first one ever to translate the Bible into German. There were, in fact, at least eighteen German translations of the whole Bible when he began his work. The quality and success of Luther’s translation, however, meant that the other eighteen translations were soon forgotten.[3]
