In Defense of the Authenticity of 1 John 5:7

In Defense of the Authenticity of 1 John 5:7 was written by C. H. Pappas in 2014. It has 164 pages. Pappas states that he has written his book 'in defense of the Johanneum Comma with hope that the light might break forth upon the minds of the people of God who strive to cling to the truth (p.xxii).

Pappas writes,

"since then the writer discovered that there were renewed attacks upon the Authorized Version, These were coming from the so-called Majority Text advocates....The writer at the time was not aware that these renewed attacks were coming from the supposed ranks of grassroots conservative evangelicals. In the past, such attacks came only from the ranks of the infidels, liberals, modernists and Unitarians. But now they are coming from those who are looked upon as the guardians of the faith."(p.xxi)

Pappas, a former Orthodox Greek had learned native Greek before learning English He notes that it is interesting that despite attacks by the Majority text defenders, that the Greek Orthodox Church, accepts the Comma as legimate:

"....we find 1John 5:7 in the Contemporary Greek Bible even as it is in the Authorized Version....What is also arresting is that the Greek Orthodox Church to this day uses only the King James or the New King James when using a English version of the New Testament. They will not endorse any other English translations" (p.41)

Criticisms

Although the book has some very good material defending the Comma Johanneum, Pappas asserts several times that the Comma had not been challenged at all in the modern era until Westcott and Hort in 1881 (e.g., “Interestingly enough, it was not until 1881 that the Comma was ever questioned” [p. 17])
