====The Revelation====
+
ΑΠΟΚΑ᾿ΛΥΨΙΣ, The revelation. The Revelation is a vision and a prophecy that unveils and discloses what is hidden or concealed. Some synonyms are: Reveal, uncovering, disclosure, discovery. It is also a Vision and a Prophecy. The opposite would be something kept hidden or concealed.
-
====of Jesus Christ====
+
Ἀπο - Κάλυψη Apo (from – or away from/take away from) kalipsi (cover) an uncovering
-
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
+
When we look at these verses with the word ''kalipsi'' in them we can get the understanding of the etymologival structure of Ἀπο-κάλυψις
-
====which God gave unto him====
+
:*'''Matthew 8:24''' And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was '''<u>covered</u>''' with the waves: but he was asleep.
 +
:*'''Matthew 10:26''' Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing '''<u>covered</u>''', that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
 +
:*'''Luke 8:16''' No man, when he hath lighted a candle, '''<u>covereth</u>''' it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
 +
:*'''Luke 23:30''' Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, '''<u>Cover</u>''' us.
 +
:*'''2 Corinthians 4:3''' But if our gospel be '''<u>hid</u>''', it is '''<u>hid</u>''' to them that are lost:
 +
:*'''James 5:20''' Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall '''<u>hide</u>''' a multitude of sins.
 +
:*'''1 Peter 4:8''' And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall '''<u>cover</u>''' the multitude of sins.
-
====to shew unto his servants====
+
In Modern Greek we might use ''kalipsi'' for speaking about snow coverage.
-
====things which must shortly come to pass====
+
There are three words used in reference to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ in the New Testament:
 +
1. ἀποκάλυψις (602) (1 Corinthians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:7, 13.)
 +
2. ἐπιφάνεια (2015) (1 Timothy 6:14)
 +
3. παρουσία (3952) 2 Thessalonians 2:1
-
====and he sent and signified it by his angel====

===The book of Revelation'''<u>s</u>'''? Or The book of Revelation?===
-
==Greek==
+
Many times this involves asking the wrong question. Notice it doesn’t say “The book” of the revelation, like in Matthew 1:1, but simply, “The Revelation” of Jesus Christ. “The book” of revelation is the entire book, which is a revelation that contains multiple revelations. It is a constant revealing of many concepts and characters. Terms like “Come and see” are continuously revelatory. So there should be no issue with someone saying the “Book of Revelations” but being strictly biblical, it says: The Revelation of Jesus Christ. Is it the “The Revelation of Jesus Christ?” or “The Revelation from Jesus Christ?” It is clear that this is Jesus Christ’s Revelation. Just like we know that “The kingdom of God” we understand as “God’s kingdom”, or “The praise of men” we understand as  “men’s praises”, and also “The glory of heaven” we understand as “Heavens glory”. The word after ''of'' does not always have to be a subject.
 +
Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the possessor of Revelation. He is the revelator. Does the book of Revelation Revel Jesus? Well yes, but that is not mentioned here. Every book of the bible reveals aspects about Jesus and yes, many verses in Revelation reveal who He is, but that is not what this verse is saying here. Some people say “It is the Revelation ''of'' or ''about'' Jesus” so then we should look for Jesus in each verse and as the subject of the book. While it is good to look for Jesus and aspects of Him in Revelation, that is not what Verse 1 is saying here.
 +
 +
Even the context here points to Jesus reveling and not being revealed: The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
 +
 +
So it is certainly in context a Revelation ''from'' Jesus Christ.

 +
The 12th century text of Reuchlin (2814) was chiefly used by Desiderius Erasmus as a basis for his first edition of the Novum Testamentum (1516). It has been claimed that it the only Greek manuscript of the Book of Revelation used by Erasmus, although I believe I can easily prove that as false. Erasmus translated the missing last six verses from the Vulgate back to Greek for his editions, some claim that was in his printed text, whereas I claim that was in his compilation of the Reuchlin codex. As a result people claim readings that depart from this codex are from the Latin Vulgate, and thus became basis for the Textus Receptus. Erasmus borrowed the manuscript from Reuchlin, but it was lost for many years until rediscovered in 1861 by Franz Delitzsch. Delitzsch made many fantastic claims about Erasmus, which we will also examine along the way.

Commentary

ΑΠΟΚΑ᾿ΛΥΨΙΣ, The revelation. The Revelation is a vision and a prophecy that unveils and discloses what is hidden or concealed. Some synonyms are: Reveal, uncovering, disclosure, discovery. It is also a Vision and a Prophecy. The opposite would be something kept hidden or concealed.

Ἀπο - Κάλυψη Apo (from – or away from/take away from) kalipsi (cover) an uncovering

When we look at these verses with the word kalipsi in them we can get the understanding of the etymologival structure of Ἀπο-κάλυψις

  • Matthew 8:24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
  • Matthew 10:26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
  • Luke 8:16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
  • Luke 23:30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
  • James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
  • 1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

In Modern Greek we might use kalipsi for speaking about snow coverage.

There are three words used in reference to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ in the New Testament: 1. ἀποκάλυψις (602) (1 Corinthians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:7, 13.) 2. ἐπιφάνεια (2015) (1 Timothy 6:14) 3. παρουσία (3952) 2 Thessalonians 2:1

The book of Revelations? Or The book of Revelation?

The word after of does not always have to be a subject.

Some people say “It is the Revelation of or about Jesus” so then we should look for Jesus in each verse and as the subject of the book. While it is good to look for Jesus and aspects of Him in Revelation, that is not what Verse 1 is saying here.

Even the context here points to Jesus reveling and not being revealed: The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

So it is certainly in context a Revelation from Jesus Christ.

Reuchlin codex

Revelation 1:1 in the 1861 Franz Delitzsch's book on Erasmus and Reuchlin
