１７章
１ And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
また六日の後イエスはペテロまたヤコブ、またその兄弟なるヨハネを携へ、人を避けて高き山に彼等を運び給ふ。
２
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
かくて彼等の前にて姿変り給へり、即ちその顔は陽の如く輝き、またその衣は光の如く白くなれり。
３.
And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
また見よ、モヲゼとエリヤ、彼等に現はれて、彼と同に話たる〔なり〕。

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
乃ちペテロ答へてイエスにいへり、主よ、此処にあるは我等のために良し。汝もし欲し給はば、我等に三つの廬（いおり）をここに造らしめ給へ、汝のために一つ、またモヲゼのために一つ、また一つはエリヤのために。

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
彼の尚ほ話たりつつありしいつに、見よ、輝ける雲、彼等を覆へり。また見よ、雲よりの声〔あり〕、云ひ給ひけるは、此の者は我が子、愛せらるる者なり、彼に於てわれ悦を得たり。汝等彼より聞け。

And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
されば弟子等聞きて、その顔を伏せ、且つ一方ならず懼れたり。
７
And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
かくてイエス進み来り彼等に触りて曰へり、起きよ、且つ懼るる勿れ。
８.
And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
乃ち彼等はその目を挙げしに、唯イエスの外に誰をも見ざりき。

And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
かくて彼等山より下りつつありしちき、イエス命じて云ひ給ひかるは、人の子の死人のうつより立ち上がるまで誰にもかの幻〔のこと〕をいふ勿れ。

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
然るに弟子等問ふて云ひけるは、されば学者等は何故にエリヤは必ず来らざるべからずといふや。
１１
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
乃ちイエス答へて彼等に曰へり、エリヤは如何にも先ず来たり、且つすべての事を挽き回（かへ）すべし。
１２
But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
されどわれ汝等に云はん、エリヤは既に到りしに、彼等は彼を認めず、反ってその欲することを彼に為せり。かくの如く人の子も将に彼等より苦を受けんとす。

Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
そのとき弟子等はバプテズマのヨハネに就きて曰ひしことなるを悟れり。

And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a [certain] man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
かくて群衆の許に彼等の到りしとき、或る人進み来りて彼の許に跪づき、

Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
且つ云ひけるは、主よ、我が子を愍（あわれ）み給へ・そは癲癇にて痛く苦しめばなり。そは屡々（しばしば）火の中に、また屡々水のなかに倒るるればなり。

And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
さればわれ汝の弟子等の許に連れ来れり。されど彼等はこれを癒すこと能はざりき。
１７
Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
乃ちイエス答へて曰へり、ああ、信（まこと）なき且つ曲れる代なるかな、我いつまで汝等のうちにあらんや。我いつまで汝等を忍ばんや。彼をここに我が許に連れ来れ。

And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
かくてイエス彼を叱し給ひしに、悪鬼彼より出で来りければ、童（わらべ）その時より癒されたり。
１９ Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
そのとき弟子等人を避けて、イエスの許に進み来りていへり、何故に我等は彼を逐ひ出だすこと能はざりしや。

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
乃ちイエス彼等に曰へり、汝等の不信なるのゆゑなり。そは誠にわれ汝等に云はん、汝等もし芥子粒ほどの信仰あらば、此の山に、此処より彼処に移れ、と謂はんに、移るべければなり。また汝等に能はざることなかるべし。

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
されど此の類は祷と断食とにあらざれば、出で往かざるべし。

And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
また彼等のガリラヤに滞留せしとき、イエス彼等に曰へり、人の子は将に人々の手に付されんとす。

And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.
また彼等はこれを殺すべく、また三日目に彼は起さるべし。乃ち弟子等一方ならず哀しめり。

And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute [money] came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
また彼等のカペナウムに到りしとき、デドラキマを取り立つる人々、ペテロの許に進み来りていへり、汝等の師はデドラキマを納めざるか。

He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
彼云ふ、然り〔納むべし〕。かくて家に彼の入り来りしとき、イエス先んじてこれに曰へり、云ひ給ひけるは、シモン汝には如何に思はるるや。地の王等は関税或は頭税を誰より取るや。彼等の子等よりか、或は佗（ほか）の人よりなるか。

Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
ペテロ彼に云ふ、佗の人より。イエス述べ給ひけるは、然らば子等は自由なる者なり。
２７
Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
されど彼等を躓かしめざるために、海に往きて釣針を投げよ、かくて一番に揚りし魚を取れ。かくてその口を開かば、汝は一スタテルを見出すべし。それを取りて我と汝とのために彼等に与えよ。
