１節 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
その期に分封の主ヘロデはイエスの風聞を聞けり。
２節.
And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
かくてその僕等にいへり、此の者はバプテズマのヨハネなり。彼は死人のうちより起きたり。されば此のゆゑに力ある行、彼のうちに働くなり。
３節
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put [him] in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
そはヘロデはその兄弟ピリポの妻ヘロデヤの故に、ヨハネを拘へてこれを縛り、且つ檻倉（かんそう＝牢獄）に入れたればなり。
４節.
For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
そはヨハネ彼に、かの婦をもつは汝のために律（ただ）しからず、といひたればなり。
５節
And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
かくて彼を殺さんと欲せしが、彼は群衆を懼れたり。そは彼等は豫言者としてこれを保ちたるが故なり。
６節
But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
然るにヘロデの誕生日の祝はれけるとき、宴（うたげ）酣（たけなは）なるにヘロデヤの娘踊りて、ヘロデに喜ばれたり。
７節.
Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
そて故に彼は誓をもて、何にても求むるものを与へんと彼に告白せり。
8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
かくて彼はその母に勧められて、述べけるは、ここにバプテズマのヨハネの首を、皿に載せて我に与へよ。
９節,
And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded [it] to be given [her].
されば王は哀しみたれど、誓と同席の人々とのゆゑに与へらるべく命じたり。
１０節
And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
かくて〔人を〕遣はし、監倉にてヨハネを馘（くびき）れり。
１１節
And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought [it] to her mother.
乃ちその首は皿に載せて持ち来られたれば、少女に与へられしに、彼はこれをその母の許に持ち往けり。
１２節
And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
かくて彼の弟子等進み来り、體を取り去りてこれを葬り、且つイエスの許に到りて報じたり。
１３節
When Jesus heard [of it], he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard [thereof], they followed him on foot out of the cities.
さればイエス聞きて人を避け、彼処より船にて寂しき場処に退き給へり。然るに多くの群衆これを聞き、市より徒歩にて彼に従へり。
１４節
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
かくてイエス出で来たりて大いなる群衆を見給ひ、且つこれを不便に思い給ひければ、その病身なる者を癒し給ひたり。
１５節
And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
また夕になりしとき、弟子等進み来り、云ひけるは、場所は荒野なり、且つ時既に過ぎ往けり。村々に往きておのおののために食滋を買はんため、諸群衆を去らしめ給へ。
１６節
But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
然るにイエス彼等に曰へり、彼等は去るに及ばず、汝等これに喰はしめよ。
１７節.
And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
然るに彼等は彼に云ふ、我等が此処に持つは五つのパンと二つの魚とに過ぎず。
１８節.
He said, Bring them hither to me.
乃ち彼曰へり、此処にそれを持ち来たれ。
１９節.
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to [his] disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
かくて草の上に席に着くべき諸群衆に命じ給ひ、且つ五つのパンと二つの魚とを取り、天を視上げて祝し給ひ、かくて彼はパンを擘（さ）きて弟子等に与へ給へり。されば弟子等は諸群衆に〔与へたり〕。
２０節
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
乃ちすべての者喰へり、且つ飽かされたり。かくて彼等は擘片（さきかけ）の余りしものを拾ひしに、十二の手籃（てかご）に盈（み）ちたり。
２１節
And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
また食せし者は婦と幼児等の外、男約（およ）そ五千ありき。
２２節
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
かくてイエス直に諸群衆を去らしめ給ふうちに、船に乗り且つ己に先き立ちて、向側に往かんことを弟子等に強い給へり。
２３節
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
また諸群衆を去らしめ給ひしとき。彼は人を避けて祈らんとて山に登り給へり。かくて夕になりしとき唯（ひとり）にてそこにおはせり。
２４節.
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
然るに船は海の真中に在りて波に難（くるし）められたり。そは風逆らひたればなり。
２５節
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
かくて夜の第四時にイエス海の上を歩みて彼等の許に到り給へり。
２６節
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
されど弟子等は海の上を歩み給ふ彼を見て当惑し、云ひけるは、変化なりと、乃ち懼れて叫び出だせり。
２７節
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
然るにイエス直に彼等に話たり、云ひ給ひけるは、勇ましかれよ、我なり、懼るる勿れ。
28And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
ペテロ乃ち答へて彼にいへり、主よもし汝におはさば、水の上を〔歩みて〕汝許に到ることを我に命じ給へ。
２９節
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
されば彼曰へり、来れ、乃ちペテロ船より下りてイエスの許に到らんとて、水の上を歩めり。
３０節
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
されど強き風を視て彼は懼れ、且つ沈み始めければ叫び出だせり、云ひけるは、主よ、我を救ひ給へ。
３１節
And immediately Jesus stretched forth [his] hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
乃ちイエス直に手を伸べ彼を掴み、且つ彼に云ひ給ふ、信仰小さき者よ、何ぞ疑ふや。
３２節
And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
かくて船に彼等の乗りしとき風は落ちたり。
３３節
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
されば船のうちなる人々、彼の許に到りて平伏し、云ひけるは、真に汝は神の子にておはします。
３４節.
And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
かくて彼等は渡りてゲネザレの地に到れり。
３５節
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
然るにその処の人々彼を認め、遍くその囲（まわり）の地方に〔人を〕使はければ、人々悩ある者をすべて彼に連れ来り、
３６節
And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
且つ唯その衣の縁に、彼等の触ることを乞へり。かくて触りし者はすべて救われたり。
