1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

1 パウロ及(およ)びテモテ、イエス・キリストの奴僕等(ぬぼくら)、〔書状(しょじょう)を〕ピリピに居(い)る見(み)守(まも)人(と)等(ら)並(なみ)に事(こと)へ人等(ひとら)と同(とも)にキリストイエスに在(あ)る、すべての聖徒等(せいとら)に〔贈(おく)る〕。

2 Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 我等(われら)の父(ちち)の神(かみ)即(すなわ)ち主(しゅ)イエスキリストより恵(めぐみ)と平和(へいわ)と汝等(なんじら)に〔あれ〕。

3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

われ汝等(なんじら)を憶(おも)い出(で)づるたびに、

4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

毎(ごと)に汝等(なんじら)すべての者(もの)のために、祈願(きがん)するごとに、喜(よろこ)びて祈願(きがん)しつつ、

5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

汝等(なんじら)が初(はつ)の日(ひ)より今(いま)に至(いた)るまで、福音(ふくいん)にまで汝等(なんじら)の親(した)しき交(こも)のために、我(われ)が神(かみ)に感謝(かんしゃ)しまつる。

6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ:

これ汝等(なんじら)のうちに善(よ)き行(こう)を始(はじ)めし者(もの)の、イエスキリストの日(ひ)までの完(かん)うすべしと、確(か)く此(こ)の事(こと)を信(しん)ずればなり。

7 Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

即(すなわ)ち汝等(なんじら)は我(われ)が縲(るい)にも、また福音(ふくいん)を弁明(べんめい)し、且(か)つこれを堅(かた)うするときにも、我(われ)を心(こころ)に保(たも)ちて、我(われ)が恵(めぐみ)に同(とも)に与(あたえ)る者(もの)なるが故(ゆえ)に、汝等(なんじら)すべての者(もの)のためにかく念(おも)ふは、我(われ)にとりて義(ぎ)しきことなり。

8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

そはイエスキリストの情(じょう)をもて、汝等(なんじら)すべての者(もの)を恋(こ)ひ慕(した)ふことにつきて、神(かみ)は我(われ)が証人(しょうにん)におはせばなり。

9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and [in] all judgment;

されば我(われ)はかく祈(いの)る、即(すなわ)ち、汝等(なんじら)の愛(あい)の、知識(ちしき)と悟(さと)とのうちに尚(な)ほ増々(ぞうぞう) 溢(おふ)れて、

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

優(すぐ)れたる事(こと)を経験(けいけん)し、キリストの日(ひ)のために、信実(しんじつ)なる者(もの)また躓(つまず)なき者(もの) たるべく、

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

イエスキリストによれる義(ぎ)の実(じつ)を満(み)たされつつ、神(かみ)の栄光(えいこう)と讃美(さんび)となるに至(いた)らんことを。

12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things [which happened] unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

されど兄弟(きょうだい)よ、我(われ)は汝等(なんじら)が我(われ)に係(かか)はれと事(こと)の、寧(むし)ろ福音(ふくいん)の進歩(しんぽ)を来(き)せしことを知(し)らんことを願(ねが)ふ。

13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other [places];

即(すなわ)ち我(われ)が縲(るい)は、庁(ちょう)中(ちゅう)及(およ)びその予(よ)のすべての者(もの)に、キリストにありて顕(あらわ)になれり、

14 And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

且(か)つ兄弟等(きょうだいら)のうちの多(おお)くの者(もの)は、我(われ)が縲(るいせつ) のために確(か)く主(しゅ)を信(しん)じつつ、懼(おそれ)るることなく溢(あふ)るるばかり勇(いさ)みて言(げん)を話(はなさ)たれり。

15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

如何(いか)にも或(あ)る者(もの)は嫉(しつ)と諍(しょう)とによりて、また或(あ)る者(もの)は悦(えつ)によりて、キリストを宣(の)ぶるなり。

16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

彼等(かれら)は誠意(せいい)にあらず、党心(とうごころ)より我(われ)が縲(るいせつ)に艱を加(くわ)へんことを想(おも)ひて、キリストを宣伝(せんでん)ふるなり。

17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

されど彼等(かれら)は福音(ふくいん)の弁明(べんめい)のために、我(われ)の立(た)てられたることを知(し)りて、愛(あい)より〔これを宣伝(せんでん)ふ〕。

18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

されば如何(いかん)に、或(ある)は託(かこつけ)、或(ある)は真理(しんり)、すべての場合(ばあい)にキリストは宣伝(せんでん)へられ給(たま)ふなり。乃(すなわ)ち我(われ)はこれをもて喜(よろこ)ぶ。尚(な)ほ喜(よろこ)ぶべし。

19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

そは此(こ)の事(こと)の、汝等(なんじら)の祈願(きがん)とイエスキリストの霊(れい)の支(し)とによりて、我(わ)がために救(すく)に至(いた)るべきことを知(し)ればなり。

20 According to my earnest expectation and [my] hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but [that] with all boldness, as always, [so] now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether [it be] by life, or by death.

是(こ)れ我(われ)は何事(なにごと)にも恥(はじ)づることなく、反(かえ)ってあらゆる大胆(だいたん)をもて毎(ごと)の如(ごと)く、今(いま)もわが體(からだ)をもて、或(ある)は生(いのち)によりても、或(ある)は死(し)によりても、キリストの崇(あが)められ給(たま)はんことを、我(われ)が切(せつ)に期(き)しまた望(のぞ)むに適(かな)へり。

21 For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.

そは我(われ)にとりて生(い)くることはキリストにて、死(し)ぬることも得(とく)なればなり。

22 But if I live in the flesh, this [is] the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

されど肉(にく)に於(おい)て生(い)くること、此(こ)の事(こと)もし我(わ)がための働(りょく)の実(じつ)〔あらば〕、我(われ)は孰(いずれ)を選(えら)ぶべきかを知(し)らず。

23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

我(われ)は此(こ)の二(ふた)つにて挟(はさ)まるるなり、我(われ)が願(ねが)ふところは〔世(よ)を〕去(さ)ること、即(すなわ)ちキリストと同(とも)に在(あ)らんことなり。そは最(さい)の勝(すぐ)ればなり。

24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh [is] more needful for you. されど〔我(われ)の〕肉(にく)に留(とど)まるは、汝等(なんじら)のゆゑに更(さら)に必要(ひつよう)なり。

25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

されば確(か)く此(こ)の事(こと)を信(しん)ずるが故(ゆえ)に、我は汝等の信仰(しんこう)の進歩(しんぽ)と喜(よろこ)とのために、汝等すべての者と留(とど)まり、且存(ながら)ふべきことを知(し)る。

26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.これ汝等の許(ばかり)に復(また)び我の到来(とうらい)によりて、汝等の誇(こ)の我のゆゑに、キリストイエスにありて増(ま)さんためなり。

27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

汝等唯(ただ)キリストの福音(ふくいん)に値(あたい)する市民(しみん)たれ。是(こ)れ或(ある)は我(われ)が来(き)たりても汝等を見(み)、或(ある)は離(はな)れ居(お)りても汝等に就(つ)きての事(こと)、即(すなわ)ち汝等が霊(れい)を一(いち)にして堅(かた)く立(た)ち、魂(たましい)を一(いち)にして福音(ふくいん)の信仰(しんこう)のために、同(とも)に励(はげ)むことを聞(き)かんためなり。

28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. また逆(さか)らふ人々(ひとびと)より何事(なにごと)にも驚(おどろ)くかさるる勿(なか)れ、此(これ)は彼等には滅(めつ)の表(しるし)、されど汝等には救(すく)の〔表〕なり。これ神(かみ)より来(く)るなり。

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; そは汝等に、キリストのために唯(ただ)彼を信(しん)ずることのみならず、尚(な)ほ彼のために苦(く)を受(う)くることをも賜(たま)はりたるが故(ゆえ)に、

30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear [to be] in me. 汝等(なんじら)は我(われ)に於(おい)て見(み)しところにして、今我(いまわれ)に於(おい)て聞(き)くところと同(おな)じ闘(たたか)を有(も)つなり。
