１ Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

そのときイエス諸群衆と弟子等とに話たりて、

２ Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

云ひ給ひけるは、学者等とパリサイの人々とはモヲゼの座に坐す。

３ All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, [that] observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

是の故に何にても彼等が護るべく汝等に云ふすべての事を護れ、且つ為せ。されどその行（わざ）に循ひて為す勿れ。そは彼等は云ふて為さざればなり。

４ For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay [them] on men's shoulders; but they [themselves] will not move them with one of their fingers.

そは彼等は重くして担ひ難き荷を括りつけて、人々の肩に置く、されど己はその指にてこれを動かすことも欲せざればなり。

５ But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

また彼等はそのすべての行を人々に看られんがために為す。また彼等はその護符を広くし、またその衣の縁を大にし、

６ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

また晩餐に於る上席、また会堂のうちの上座、

７ And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

また市場にての挨拶、また人々よりラビ、ラビと呼ばれることを好む。。

８. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren.

されど汝等はラビと呼ばれる勿れ。そは汝等の導師は一、即ちキリストにして、汝等はみな兄弟なればなり。

９. And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

また地に〔ある者〕を汝等の父と呼ぶ勿れ。そは汝等の父は一、〔即ち〕天におはす者なればなり。　　　　　　 　　　　　　　

１０ Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ.

また導師と呼ばれる勿れ。そは汝等の導師は一、〔即ち〕キリストにおはせばなり。　　　　　　

１１. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

また汝等乃の大いなる者は汝等の事ヘ人たるべし。

１２ And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

また誰にても己自らを高うする者は卑うせらるべく、また誰にても己自らを卑うする者は高うせらるべし。

１３. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in [yourselves], neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

また汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。そは汝等は尚ほ寡婦（やもめ）の家を喰ひ尽し、かくて託（かこつけ）に長く祈ればなり。

１４ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。そは汝等は天国を人々の前に鍵すればなり。そは汝等は入り来らず、また入り来りつつある者をも、汝等は許して入り来らしめざればなり。　　　　　　　

１５ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。そは汝等は一〔人〕を改宗者に為さんとて、海と陸とを往きめぐり、かくてそのなりしときは、汝等はこれを汝等に倍したるゲヘナの子たらしむればなり。

１６. Woe unto you, [ye] blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

汝等禍なるかな、盲者なる手引等よ。汝等は誰にても聖所をもて誓ふ者は事なし、されど誰にても聖所の黄金を持て誓ふ者は負ふ者なり、と云ふ。

１７ [Ye] fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? 愚なる者にて盲（めしい）なる者等よ。黄金と黄金を聖ならしむる聖所とは孰れ大なるや。　　　　　　

１８ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

また、誰にても祭壇をもて誓ふ者は事なし、されどその上なる供へ物を持て誓ふ者は負へる者なり、〔と汝等は云ふ〕。

１９; [Ye] fools and blind: for whether [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

愚なる者にて盲なる者等よ。供へ物を聖ならしむる祭壇とは、孰れ大なるや。

２０ Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

是の故に祭壇を持て誓ふ者は、祭壇とその上なるすべての物をもて誓ふ〔なり〕。　　　　　　

２１ And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

また聖所をもて誓ふ者は、それとそのうちに住み給ふ彼をもて誓ふ〔なり〕。。

２２. And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

また天をもて誓ふ者は、神の位とその上に坐し給う彼をもて誓ふ〔なり〕。

２３ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。汝等は薄荷（はっか）、また茴香（ういきょう）、また馬斤（いのんど）の十分の一を納む。されど掟の重んずるところの事なる、裁と愍と信仰とを差しおく。必ずこれらを為さざるべからず、またそれらも差しおくべからず。　　　　　　　

２４. [Ye] blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

盲者なる手引等よ。汝等は蚊（か）を漉し出だせども、駱駝をば呑み尽す。

２５. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。そは汝等は杯また皿の外側を淨（きよ）くす、されども内は貪欲と淫慾にて満つればなり。。

２６ [Thou] blind Pharisee, cleanse first that [which is] within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

盲者なるパリサイ人よ、杯また皿の外側も淨くなるよう、先ずその内側を淨くせよ。　　　　　　

２７ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead [men's] bones, and of all uncleanness.

汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。そは汝らは白く塗りたる墓の如何にも外は美しく見ゆれども、内は死人の骨とすべての不浄とにて満つるに似たればなり。　　　　　　

２８ Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

かくの如く汝等も、外側は如何にも人々に義しき者に現はるれども、内側は偽善と不法とにて満てり。　　　　　　

２９ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

汝等禍なるかな、偽善者なる学者等とパリサイの人々よ。そは汝等は豫言者等の碑を建て、また義しき者の墓を飾り、

３０. And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

且つ、我等もし先祖等の日に在りたりとも、豫言者等の血に於て彼等の仲間たらざりしものを、と云へばなり。

３１. Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

されば汝等は己自ら、豫言者等を殺しし者の子等なることを証す。

３２. Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

されば汝等は己が先祖等の桝目をば満たせ。

３３ [Ye] serpents, [ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

蛇よ、蝮の裔よ、如何にして汝等はゲヘナの裁より遁るべけんや。

３４ Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and [some] of them ye shall kill and crucify; and [some] of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute [them] from city to city:

此のゆゑに、見よ、われ汝等に豫言者等と智（さと）き人々と学者等とを使はさん＝然るに汝等はその〔或る者〕を殺し、また十字架につけ、またその〔ある者〕を汝等は会堂にて鞭（むちう）ち、また市より市に到りて迫害するならん。＝　　　　　　

３５ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

即ち義者アベルの血より、聖所と祭壇との間にて殺されし、バラキヤの子ザカリヤの血に至るまで、地に流されたるすべての義しき者の血は、汝等の上に到るべきためなり。　　　　　　

３６ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

誠にわれ汝等に云はん、此等の事はすべて此の代の上に到るべし。

３７ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and ye would not!

エルサレムよ、豫言者等を殺し、また己が許に使はされたる人々を石（いしう）つエルサレムよ、われ牝鶏の己自らの雛を、その翼の下に集むるが如く、汝等の児等を集めんと欲せしこと幾度ぞや。然るに汝等は欲せざりき。

３８. Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

見よ、汝等の家は荒れ廃れて汝等に差しおかれん。

３９ For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

そはわれ汝等に云はん、今より後、必ず主の名に於て来る者は祝せられます者かな、と汝等の云はん〔時に至る〕まで、我を見ざるねければなり。
