１ a　また過越即ち酵徐の節会は二日の後なりき。かくて祭司長等と学者等とは、如何にしてか、譎にて彼を捉えて殺さんと索めつつありき。 b　さて、過越の祭りお種なしのパンの祝いが二日後に迫っていたので、祭司長、律法学者たちは、どうしたらイエスをだまして捕え、殺すことができるだろ うか、とけんめいであった。 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

２ a　されど彼等は云へり、節会のうちには為さざれ、然らざれば民の騒（さわぎ） あるべし。 b　彼らは、「祭りの間はいけない。民衆の騒ぎが起こるといかないから。」と話 していた。 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

３ a　また彼のベタニヤにおわして、癩病者シモンの家にて席に着き給ひしとき、 〔一人の〕婦、高価なるナルダの香油の〔入りたる〕蝋石の壺を持ち来たれり。かくてその蝋石の壺を毀（こわ）して、彼の頭に注げり。 b　イエスがベタニヤで、らい病人シモンの家におられたとき、ひとりの女が、純 粋で、非常に高価なナルド油のはいった石膏のつぼを持って来て、そのつぼを割り、イエスの頭に注いだ。 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

４ a　然るに或る者たち己自らに対ひて腹立てり、且つ云ひけるは、此の香油の無益なる費は何のためなるや。 b　すると、何人かの者が憤慨して互いに言った。「何のために、香油をこんなにむだにしたのか。 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

５ a　そはこれを三百デナリ余に売りて、貧しき者に与ふることを得たればなり。か くて彼等は婦を墳（いきどお）れり。 b　この香油なら、三百デナリ以上に売れて、貧乏な人たちに施しができたの に。」そうして、その女をきびしく責めた。 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

６ a　然るにイエス曰へり、差しおけ。何ぞ汝等は彼を悩ましむるや。良き行を彼 は我がために行へり。 b　すると、イエスは言われた。「そのままにしておきなさい。なぜこの人を困らせるのですか。わたしのために、りっぱなことをしてくれたのです。 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

７ a　そは毎（つね）に貧しき者を汝等は汝等と共にもてば、いつにても汝等の欲するとき、これに宜しき〔事〕を為すことを得れど、我を毎に汝等はもたざればなり。 b　貧しい人たちは、いつもあなたがたといっしょにいます。それで、あなたがた がしたいときは、いつでも彼らに良いことをしてやれます。しかし、わたしは、いつもあなたがたといっしょにいるわけではありません。 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

８ a　彼は竭（つく＝尽く）したる事をなせり。彼は葬のために、我が體に油ぬらん とて豫（あらかじ）め備へたり。 b　この女は、自分にできることをしたのです。埋葬の用意にと、わたしのからだ に、前もって油を塗ってくれたのです。 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

９ a　誠にわれ汝等に云はん、全世界いずれにても此の福音の宣べらるる処にて、此の婦の為ししこともその想い出のために話たらるべし。 b　まことに、あなたがたに告げます。世界中のどこでも、福音が宣べ伝えられる所なら、この人のした事も語られて、この人の記念となるでしょう。」 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

１０ a　かくて十二のうちの一〔人〕なるイスカリヲデのユダ、彼を彼等に付（わた）すために祭司長等の許に去れり。 b　ところで、イスカリオテ・ユダは、十二弟子のひとりであるが、イエスを売ろうとして祭司長たちのところへ出向いて行った。 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

１１ a　されば彼等は聞きて喜び、且つ銀子を与ふることを約したり。乃ち彼は如何にしてか、機好く彼を付さんことを索めたり。 b　かれらはこれを聞いて喜んで、金をやろうと約束した。そこでユダは、どうし たら、うまいぐあいにイエスを引き渡せるかと、ねらっていた。 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

１２ a　また酵徐（たねのけ）の最初の日に人々過越を屠りしとき、弟子等彼に云ふ、汝は過越を喰ひ給二目に、何処に去って我等のこれを備ふるを欲し給ふや。 b　種なしパンの祝いの第一日、すなわち、過越の子羊をほふる日に、弟子たちはイエスに言った「。「過越の食事をなさるのに、私たちは、どこへ行って用意をしましょうか。」 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

１３ a　乃ち彼は弟子等のうちの二〔人〕を使はし、且つこれに云ひ給ふ、市に往け。 されば水瓶を担へる人は汝等に逢うべし。それに従へ。 b　そこで、イエスは、弟子のうちふたりを送って、こう言われた。「都にはいりなさい。そうすれば、水がめを運んでいる男に会うから、その人について行きなさい。 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

１４ a　またいずこにてもその入り来るところに〔入りて〕、その家の主人にいへ、師 は云ひ給ふ、我が弟子等と共に過越を我が喰ふべき処の仮宿は何処にあるやと。 b　そして、その人が入って行く家の主人に、『弟子たちといっしょに過越の食事 をする、わたしの客間はどこか、と先生が言っておられる、』と言いなさい。 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

１５ a　されば彼は整へて備へたる、大なる二階座敷を汝等に見（あら）はすべし。 我等のためにそこの備へよ。 b　するとその主人が自分で、席が整って用意のできた二階の広間を見せてくれます。そこでわたしたちのために用意をしなさい。 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

１６ a　乃ち弟子等去って市に到れり。かくて彼等の曰ひし如く見出せり。。乃ち彼等 は過越を備へたり。 b　でしたちが出かけて行って、都にはいると、まさしくイエスの言われたとおりであった。それで、彼らはそこで過越の食事の用意をした。 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

１７ a　かくて夕になりしとき、彼は十二と共に来り給ふ。 b　夕方になって、イエスは十二弟子といっしょにそこに来られた。 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

１８ a　また彼等の席に着きて食しつつありしとき、イエス曰へり、誠にわれ汝等に 云はん、汝等のうちの一〔人〕我と共に食する者、我を付すべしと。 b　そして、みなが席に着いて、食事をしているとき、イエスは言われた。「まことに、あなたがたに告げます。あなたがたのうちのひとりで、わたしといっしょに食事をしている者が、わたしを裏切ります。 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

１９ a　乃ち彼等は哀しみ、且つ一人一人彼に云ひ始めたり、或は我にあらざるか、また別の者、或は我にあらざるか。然るに彼答へて彼等の曰へり、十二のうちの一〔人〕、我と共に皿のうちに浸す者〔なり〕。 b　弟子たちは悲しくなって、「まさか私ではないでしょう。」とかわるがわるイエスに言いだした。 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

２０ a　然るに彼答へて云ひ始めたり、或ひは我にあらざるか、また別の者、或は我 にあらざるか。 b　イエスは言われた。「この十二人の中のひとりで、わたしといっしょに、同じ鉢にパンを浸している者です。 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.

２１ a　如何にも人の子は彼に就きて録されたる如くに往く。されど人の子を付すか の人は禍なるかな。この人は生まれざりしならば良かりき。 b　確かに、人の子は、自分について書いてあるとおりに、去って行きます。しか し、人の子を裏切るような人間はのろわれます。そういう人は生まれなかった ほうがよかったのです。」 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

２２ a　また彼等の食しつつありしとき、イエスはパンを取り祝して擘き給へり。かくて彼等に与へ、且つ曰へり、取れ、喰へ、此は我が體なり。 b　それから、みなが食事をしているとき、イエスはパンを取り、祝福して後、こ れを裂き、彼らに与えて言われた。「取りなさい。これはわたしのからだで And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.す。」

２３ a　また杯を取り、感謝して彼等に与へ給へり。乃ち彼等はみなそれより飲めり。 b　また、杯を取り、感謝をささげて後、彼らに与えられた。彼らはみなその杯か ら飲んだ。 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

２４ a　かくて彼等に曰へり、此は多くの者のために流す、新契約の我が血なり。 b　イエスは彼らに言われた。「これはわたしの契約の血です。多くの人のため に流されるものです。 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

２５ a　誠にわれ汝等に云はん、此の後かの日、神の国に於て新しきものを飲むときまで、葡萄の実より〔のものを〕我は飲まじと。 b　まことに、あなたがたに告げます。神の国で新しく飲むその日までは、わたし はもはや、ぶどうの実で造った物を飲むことはありません。」 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

２６ a　かくて讃美を歌ひつつ彼等はエライオンの山にまで出で来れり。 b　そして、讃美の歌を歌ってから、みなでオリーブ山へ出かけて行った。 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

２７ a　かくてイエス云ひ給ふ、汝等はみな此の夜のうちに我に躓かさるるならんと。 そは、われ牧者を撃たん、されば羊は散らさるべし、と録されたればなり。 b　イエスは、弟子たちに言われた。「あなたがたはみな、つまずきます。『わた しが羊飼いを打つ。すると、羊は散り散りになる。』と書いてありますから。 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

２８ a　されどわれ起きて後、汝等に先立ちてガリラヤに往くべし。 b　しかしわたしは、よみがえってから、あなたがたよ先きに、ガリラヤへ行きま す。」 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

２９ a　然るにペテロ述べけるは、仮令みな躓かさるるとも、我のもは然らず。 b　すると、ペテロがイエスに言った。「たとい全部の者がつまずいても、私はつ まずきません。」 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

３０ a　乃ちイエス彼に云ひ給ふ、誠にわれ汝に云はん、今日此の夜のうち、鶏の二 たび鳴くより先きに、三たび汝は我を否むべしと。 b　イエスは彼に言われた。「まことに、あなたに告げます。あなたは、きょう、今夜、鶏が二度鳴く前に、わたしを知らないと三度言います。」 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

３１ a　然るに彼は繰り返し繰り返し云へり、仮令われは汝と同に、必ず死なざるね からざることありとも、決して汝を否（いな）まじ。乃ち彼等もみな同じ様に云へり。 b　ペテロは力を込めて言い張った。「たとい、ごいっしょに死ななければならな いとしても、私は、あなたを知らないなどとは決して申しません。」みなの者も そう言った。 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

３２ a　また彼等はゲッセマネと名（なづ）くる処に来れり。然るに彼は弟子等に云ひ 給ふ、我が祈るうち此処の坐せよ。 b　ゲッセマネという所に来て、イエスは弟子たちに言われた。「わたしが祈る間、ここにすわっていなさい。」 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

３３ a　かくて彼はペテロとヤコブとヨハネとを己自らと共に携へ〔往き〕給ふ。また彼は甚（いたく＝はなはだし）く駭（おどろ）き、且つ項垂（うなだ）れ始め給へり。 b　そして、ペテロ、ヤコブ、ヨハネをいっしょに連れて行かれた。イエスは深く恐れもだえ始められた。 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

３４ a　かくて彼等に云ひ給ふ、我が魂は死なんばかりにいと哀（かな）し、此処の留 まれ、且つ目を覚ましをれ。 b　そして彼らに言われた。「わたしは悲しみのあまり死ぬほどです。ここを離れ ないで、目をさましていなさい。」 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

３５ a　かくて少しく進み往き、地に伏して祈り給へり、もし能ふねくんば、時は彼より過ぎ去りたらんことを。 b　それから、イエスは少し進んで行って、地面にひれ伏し、もしできることなら、 この時が自分から過ぎ去るようにと祈り、 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

３６ a　また云ひ給へり、アバ、父よ、なんじにはすべての事能はざるなし。此の杯を 我より取る去り給へ。されど我が欲する事にあらず、されど汝の事を〔為し給 へ〕。 b　またこう言われた。「アバ、父よ。あなたにいできにならないことはありませ ん。どうぞ、この杯をわたしから取りのけてください。しかし、わたしの願うことではなく、あなたのみこころのままを、なさってください。」 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

３７ a　かくて彼は来り、且つ寝（い）ぬる彼等を見出し給ふ。さればペテロに云ひ給 ふ、シモン、汝は寝ぬるか。汝は一と時も目を覚ましをること能ざりしか。 b　それから、イエスは戻って来て、彼らの眠っているのを見つけ、ペテロに言わ れた。「シモン。眠っているのか。一時間でも目をさましていることができなか ったのか。 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

３８ a　目を覚ましをれ、且つ試に入り来らざるやう祈れ。是れ霊は如何にも切に望めども、肉弱きなり。 b　誘惑に陥らないように、目をさまして、祈り続けなさい。心は燃えていても、肉体は弱いのです。」 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

３９ a　かくて復た去って、同じ言をいひつつ彼は祈り給へり。 b　イエスは再び離れて行き、前と同じことばで祈られた。 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

４０ a　かくて、帰りて、彼は復た寝ぬる彼等を見出し給へり。そはその目疲れたればなり。乃ち彼等は何んと彼に答ふべきやを知らざりき。 b　そして、また戻って来て、ご覧になると、彼らは眠っていた。ひどく眠けがさしていたのである。彼らは、イエスにどう言ってよいか、わからなかった。 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

４１ a　かくて彼は三たびめ来たり、且つ彼等に云ひ給ふ、此の余は寝ねよ、且つ休め。充分なり。時は到れり。見よ、人の子は罪人等の手に付さるるなり。 b　イエスは三度目に来て、彼らに言われた。「まだ眠って休んでいるのですか。もう十分です。時が来ました。見なさい。人の子は罪人たちの手に渡されます。

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

４２

a　起きよ、いざ往くべし。見よ、我を付す者は近づけり。

b　立ちなさい。さあ、行くのです。見なさい。わたしを裏切る者が近づきました。」

Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

４３

a　かくて直に彼は尚ほ話たりておわししとき、十二のうちの一〔人〕なるユダ詣（いた）れり。また彼と共に大なる群集は剣と棒とをもちて、祭司長等並に長老等より〔来れり〕。

b　そしてすぐ、イエスがまだ話しておられるうちに、十二弟子のひとりのユダが 現れた。剣や棒を手にした群集もいっしょであった。群衆はみな、祭司長、律法学者、長老たちから差し向けられたものであった。

And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders

４４

a　また彼を付しつつありし者、合図を彼等に与へて云ひけるは、我が接吻する者は彼なり。それを捕へ、且つ確と連れ往け。

b　イエスを裏切る者は、彼らと前もって次のような合図を決めておいた。「私が口づけをするのが、その人だ。その人をつかまえて、しっかりと引いて行くのだ。」

And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

４５

a　乃ち彼は到りしとき、直に彼に進み来りて云ふ、ラビ、ラビ。かくて幾度も彼に接吻せり。

b　それで、彼はやって来るとすぐに、イエスに近寄って、「先生。」と言って、口づけした。

And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

４６

a　乃ち人々手を彼に掛けて捕へたり。

b　すると人々は、イエスに手をかけて捕えた。

And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

４７

a　されば傍に立てる者のうちの一〔人〕、剣を引き抜きて、祭司長の奴僕を撃ち、且つその耳を取りはなせり。

b　そのとき、イエスのしばに立っていたひとりが、剣を抜いて大祭司のしもべに撃ちかかり、その耳を切り落とした。

And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

４８

a　かくてイエス答えて彼等に曰へり、汝等は我を捕へんとて強盗に対（むか）ふが如く、剣と棒とをもて出で来れるや。

b　イエスは彼らに向かって言われた。「まるで強盗にでも向かうように、剣や棒を持ってわたしを捕えに来たのですか。

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

４９

a　日に循ひて我は教へつつ、神殿にて汝等と偕にありしに、汝等は我を捉えざりき。されどこれ聖書の成就せらるるためなり。

b　わたしは毎日、宮であなたがたといっしょにいて、教えていたのに、あなたがたは、わたしを捕えなかったのです。しかし、こうなったのは聖書のことばが実現するためです。」

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

５０

a　かくてすべて〔の者〕彼を差しおきて遁れたり。

b　すると、みながイエスを見捨てて、逃げてしまった。

And they all forsook him, and fled

５１

a　また或る一〔人の〕若者、素裸の上に麻布を纏ひて彼に従へり。然るに若者等これを捉へたり。

b　ある青年が、素はだに亜麻布を一枚まとったままで、イエスについて行ったところ、人々は彼を捕えようとした。

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

５２

a　されば彼は麻布を措（お）きて、素裸にて彼等より遁れたり。

b　すると、彼は亜麻布を脱ぎ捨てて、はだかで逃げた。

And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

５３

a　かくて彼等はイエスを祭司長の許に連れ往けり。乃ち祭司長等及び長老等並に学者等すべて集まれり。

b　彼らがイエスを大祭司のところへ連れて行くと、祭司長、長老、律法学者たちがみな、集まって来た。

And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes

５４

a　またペテロは遠くより、祭司長の中庭のうちにまで彼に従い入れり。かくて彼は使丁等のうちに同に坐し、且つ煖まりつつ光に対ひてありき。

b　ペテロは、遠くからイエスのあとをつけながら、大祭司の庭の中にまではいって行った。そして、役人たちといっしょにすわって、火にあたっていた。

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

５５

a　かくて祭司長等と全議会とはこれを死罪に処せんために、イエスに逆らひて証を索めたり。されど見出さざりき。

b　さて、祭司長たちと全議会は、イエスを死刑にするために、イエスを訴える証拠をとかもうと務めたが、何も見つからなかった。

And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

５６

a　そは多くの者彼に逆らいて、偽の証を立てたれども、均しくその証はあらざり証言を求めたが、得られなかった。

b　イエスに対する偽証をした者は多かったが、一致しなかったのである。

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

５７

a　かくて在る者立ち上がりて彼に逆らひ、偽の証をなせり、云ひけるは、

b　すると、数人が立ち上がって、イエスに対する偽証をして、次にように言った。

And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

５８

a　我等はけれが、手にて造れる此の聖所を壊（やぶ）るべし、かくて三日にて、手にて造らざる別のを我は建てん、と云ふを聞けりと。

b　「私たちは、この人が『わたしは手で造られたこの神殿を「こわして、三日のうちに、手で造られない別の神殿を造って見せる。』と言うのを聞きました。」

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

５９

a　されどその証も均しくあらざりき。

b　しかし、この点でも証言は一致しなかった。

But neither so did their witness agree together.

６０

a　かくて祭司長は真中に立ち上がりてイエスに問へり、云ひけるは、汝は何も答へざるか。此等の者の汝に逆らひて証するは何ぞや。

b　そこで大祭司は立ち上がり、真中に進み出てイエスに尋ねて言った。「何も答えないのですか。この人たちが、あなたに不利な証言をしていますが、これはどうなのですか。」

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

６１

a　されど彼は黙して何も答へ給はざりき。復た祭司長問へり、且つ彼に云ふ、汝はキリスト、祝せられます者の子なるや。

b　しかし、イエスは黙ったままで、何もお答えにならなかった。大祭司は、さらにイエスに尋ねて言った。「あなたは、ほむべき方の子、キリストですか。」

But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

６２

a　乃ちイエス曰へり、我なり。また汝等は力の右手にて坐し、かくて天の雲のうちに来る人の子を目のあたり見るべし。

b　そこでイエスは言われた。「わたしは、それです。人の子が、力ある方の右の座に着き、天の雲に乗ってくるのを、あなたがたは見るはずです。」

And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

６３

a　乃ち祭司長、己が下衣を裂きて云ふ、何ぞ此の上に証人を要することあらんや。

b　すると、大祭司は、自分の衣を引き裂いて言った。「これでもまだ、証人が必要でしょうか。」

Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

６４

a　汝等は冒（けがし）を聞けり。汝等には如何に現はるるや。乃ち彼等はすべて、彼を死罪に当たるものなりと定めたり。

b　あなたがたは、神をけがすこのことばを聞いたのです。どう考えますか。」すると、彼らは全員で、イエスには死刑に当たる罪があると決めた。

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

６５

a　かくて或る者は彼に唾し、またその顔を被ひ、またこれを拳にて搏ち、また豫言せよ、と云ひ始めたり。また使丁らは掌にて彼を批（う＝打）てり。

b　そうして、ある人々ハ、イエスにつばきをかけ、御顔をおおい、こぶしでなぐりつけ、「言い当ててみろ。」などと言ったりし始めた。また、役人たちは、イエスを受け取って、平手で打った。

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

a　またペテロは中庭にて下にありしとき、祭司長の婢（はしため）のうちの一 〔人〕来る。

b　ペテロが下の庭にいると、大祭司の女中のひとりが来て、

And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

a　かくて煖（あたた）まれるペテロを見しとき、彼をつらつら視て云ふ、されば汝はナザレ人なるイエスと共に在りき。

b　ペテロが火にあたっているのを見かけ、彼をじっと見つめて、言った。「あなたも、あのナザレ人、あのイエスといっしょにいましたね。」

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

a　然るに彼は否めり、云ひけるは、我は知らず。また何を汝は云ふかも解せず。かくて彼は庭口まで外に出で来れり。乃ち鶏鳴けり。

b　しかし、ペテロはそれを打ち消して、「何を言っているのか、わからない。見当もつかない。」と言って、出口のほうへと出て行った。

But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

６９

a　かくて婢彼を見て復た傍に立てる人々に、此の者は彼等のうちなり、と云ひ始めたり。

b　すると女中は、ペテロを見て、そばに立っていた人たちに、「この人はあの仲間です。」と言いだした。

And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

７０

a　然るに彼は復た否めり。かくて暫くして、復た傍に立てる人々ペテロに云へり、真に汝は彼等のうちなり。そは汝もガリラヤ人にて、汝の話は等（ひと）しければなり。

b　しかし、ペテロは再び打ち消した。しばらくすると、そばに立っていたその人たちが、またペテロに言った。「確かに、あなたはあの仲間だ。ガリラヤ人なのだから。」

And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

a　然るに、我は汝が云ふ此の人を知らず、と彼は詛ひ且つ誓ひ始めたり。

b　しかし、彼はのろいをかけて誓い始め、「私は、あなたがたの話しているその人を知りません。」と言った。

But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

７２

a　かくて二たび鶏鳴きぬ。さればペテロは鶏二たび鳴くに先んじ汝は三たびわれを否むべし、とイエスの彼に曰ひし詞を憶ひ起せり。また思い到りて彼は泣けり。

b　するとすぐに、鶏が、二度目に鳴いた。そこでペテロは、「鶏が二度鳴く前に、」あなたは、わたしを知らないと三度言います。」という主のおことばを思い出した。それに思い当たったとき、彼は泣き出した。

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
