１ 永井訳　それらの日に復た甚だ大なる群集あり、また彼らは喰ふべき物をもたざりき。然るにイエス弟子等を召してこれに云ひ給ふ、

新改訳　そのころ、また大ぜいの人の群れが集まっていたが、食べる物がなかったので、イエスは弟子たちを呼んで言われた。

In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

２ 永井訳　われ此の群集を不便（ふびん）に思ふ。そは彼らは既に三日続きて我と友にあり、且つ喰ふべき物をもたざればなり。

新改訳　「かわいそうに、この群集はもう三日間もわたしといっしょにいて、食べる物 を持っていないのです。

I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

３ 永井訳　さればもし食を断ちたるままにて、彼らを己が家に去らしめんには、満ちにて 弱るならん。そはそのうちの或る者は、遠くより来たればなり。

新改訳　空腹のまま家に帰らせたら、途中で動けなくなるでしょう。それに遠くから来 ている人もいます。

And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

４ 永井訳　乃ち弟子等彼に答へり、誰かいずこよりして此処なる荒野にて、パンをもて此等の者を飽かしむることを得べきやと。

新改訳　弟子たちは答えた。「こんなへんぴな所で、どこからパンを手に入れて、この 人たちに十分食べさせることができましょう。」

And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

５ 永井訳　然るに彼等に問ひ給へり、汝等幾つのパンあるや、乃ち彼等いへり、七つ。

新改訳　すると、イエスは尋ねられた。「パンはどれぐらいありますか。」弟子たちは、 「七つです。」と答えた。

And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

６ 永井訳　かくて彼は群集に命じて、地の上にて席に着かしめ給へり。また七とのパン を取り、感謝して擘き給へり、かくて〔人々の〕前に置くために、弟子等に与へ給ひたり。されば彼等はこれを群集の前に置けり。

新改訳　すると、イエスは群集に、地面にすわるようにおっしゃった。それから、七つ のパンを取り、感謝をささげてからそれを裂き、人々に配るように弟子たちに与えられたので、弟子たちは群集に配った。

And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.

７ 永井訳　また小さき魚少しありたり、されば彼は祝してこれをも〔人々の〕前に置けと 曰へり。

新改訳　また、魚が少しばかりあったので、そのために感謝をささげてから、これも配 るように言われた。

And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.

８ 永井訳　乃ち彼等は喰へり、且つ飽かされたり、かくて彼等は裂片（さきかけ）の余を 七籠拾へり。

新改訳　人々は食べて満腹した。そして余りのパン切れを七つのかごに拾い集めた。

So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

９ 永井訳　また喰ひし人々、男約（およ）そ四千ありき。かくて彼はこれを去らしめ給へ り。

新改訳　人々はおよそ四千人であった。それからイエスは、彼らを解散させられた。

And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

１０ 永井訳　また直に彼は弟子等と共に船に乗りて、ダルマヌタの地方に到り給へり。

新改訳　そしてすぐに弟子たちとともに舟に乗り、ダルマヌタ地方へ行かれた。

And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

１１ 永井訳　然ルニパリサイの人々出で来り、且つ彼を試みんとて、天よりの明か徴を彼 いりつつ、これと論じ始めたり。

新改訳　パリサイ人たちがやって来て、イエスに議論をしかけ、点からのしるしを求め た。イエスをためそうとしたのである。

And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

１２ 永井訳　されば彼はその霊に於て歎じて云ひ給ふ、何んすれぞ此の代は徴を索むるや。誠にわれ汝等に云はん、もし徴を此の代に与へらるべくんば。

新改訳　イエスは、心の中で深く嘆息して、こう言われた。「なぜ、今の時代はしるしを求めるのか。まことに、あなたがたに告げます。今の時代には、しるしは絶対に与えられません。」

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

１３ 永井訳　かくて彼は彼等を差しおきて、復た船に乗りて向側に去り給へり。

新改訳　イエスは彼らを離れて、また舟に乗って向こう岸へ行かれた。

And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

１４ 永井訳　また彼等はパンを携ふることを忘れたり。されば船にて彼等のうちに、一つ のパンの外はあらざりき。

新改訳　弟子たちは、パンを持って来るのを忘れ、舟の中ニハ、パンがただ一つしかなかった。

Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

１５ 永井訳　かくて彼は彼等に言ひ含め、云ひ給ひけるは、覩よ、パリサイの人々のパン種とヘロデのパン種とを視よ。

新改訳　そのとき、イエスは彼らに命じて言われた。「パリサイ人のパン種とヘロデの パン種とに十分気をつけなさい。」

And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

１６ 永井訳　乃ち彼等互に勘考して、云ひけるは、是れ我等のパンを持たざるが故なり。

新改訳　そこで弟子たちは、パンを持っていないということで、互に議論し始めた。

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

１７ 永井訳　さればイエス知りて彼等に云ひ給ふ、何すれぞ汝等はパンを持たざることを 勘考するや。汝等は未だ解せず、また悟らざるか。汝等の心は尚鈍きか。

新改訳　それに気づいてイエスは言われた。「なぜ、パンがないといって議論している のですか。まだわからないのですか、悟らないのですか。心が堅く閉じているのですか。

And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

１８ 永井訳　目ありて汝等は視ざるか。また耳ありて汝等は聞かざるか。また汝等は憶い出でざるか。

新改訳　目がありながら見えないのですか。耳がありながら聞こえないのですか。あなたがたは、覚えていないのですか。

Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

１９ 永井訳われ五つのパンを五千〔人〕のために擘きしとき、汝等は擘片の盈ちたる手籃を幾つ拾ひしや。彼等云ふ、十二。

新改訳　わたしが五千人に五つのパンを裂いて上げたトキ、パン切れを拾い集めて、 幾つのかごがいっぱいにねりましたか。」彼らは答えた。「十二です。」

When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

２０ 永井訳　また七つを四千〔人〕のためにせしとき、擘片の盈たる籠の幾つを拾ひしや。 乃ち彼等いへり、七つ。

新改訳　「四千人に七つのパンを裂いて上げたときは、パン切れを拾い集めて幾つのかごがいっぱいになりましたか。」彼らは答えた。「七つです。」

And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

２１ 永井訳　かくて彼等に云ひ給へり、如何にして汝等は悟らざるか。

新改訳　イエスは言われた。「まだ悟らないのですか。」

And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

２２ 永井訳　また彼はベテサイダに来たり給へり、然るに人々彼に盲者を連れ来り、且つこれに触り給はんことを乞へり。

新改訳　彼らはベッサイダに着いた。すると人々が、盲人を連れて来て、さわってやっ てくださるようにイエスに願った。

And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

２３ 永井訳　乃ち彼は盲者の手を執りて、これを村の外に連れ出し給ひ、且つその目に唾し、手を彼の上に按きて、何かを視るや否やと問ひ給へり。

新改訳　イエスは盲人の手を取って村の外に連れて行かれた。そしてその両眼につばきをつけ、両手を彼に当ててやって、「何が見えるか。」と聞かれた。

And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

２４ 永井訳　されば視上げて、彼云へり、われ人を視る、即ち樹の如き歩む〔もの〕を覩る。

新改訳　すると彼は、見えるようになって、「人が見えます。木のようですが、歩いているのが見えます。」と言った。

And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

２５ 永井訳　かくて復たかれは手を彼の目の上に按きて、視上げしめ給へり、乃ち直（な お）れり。されば明かにすべてのものをつらつら視たり。

新改訳　それから、イエスはもう一度かれの両眼に両手を当てられた。そして、彼が 見つめていると、すっかり直り、すべてのものがはっきり見えるようになった。

After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

２６ 永井訳　かくて彼を己が家に使はして、云ひ給ひけるは、村にも入り来る勿れ、また村の誰にもいふ勿れ。

新改訳　そこでイエスは、彼を言えに帰し、「村にはいっていかないように。」と言われた。

And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

２７ 永井訳　またイエスと弟子等と出でて、ピリピのカイザリヤの村々に到れり。かくて道 にて彼は弟子等に問ふてこれに云ひ給ひけるは、人々は我を誰なりと云ふや。

新改訳　それから、イエスは弟子たちとピリポ・カイザリヤの村々へ出かけられた。そ の途中、イエスは弟子たちに尋ねて言われた。「人々はわたしをだれだと言 っていますか。」

And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?

２８ 永井訳　乃ち彼等答へり、バプテスマのヨハネ、また別の者はエリヤ、また別の者は豫言者の一〔人〕。

新改訳　彼らは答えて言った。「バプテスマのヨハネだと言っています。エリヤだと言う人も、また預言者のひとりだという人もいます。」

And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

２９ 永井訳　かくて彼は彼等に云ひ給ふ、されど汝等は我を誰なりと云ふや。乃ちペテロ答へて云ふ、汝はキリストにおわします。

新改訳　するとイエスは、彼らに尋ねられた。「では、あなたがたは、わたしをだれだと言いますか。」ペテロが答えてイエスに言った。「あなたはキリストです。」

And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

３０ 永井訳　然るに彼は、彼に就きて誰にも云ふ勿れ、と彼等を戒め給へり。

新改訳　するとイエスは、自分のことをだれにも言わないようにと、彼らを戒められた。

And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

３１ 永井訳　かくて彼は、人の子は必ず多くの苦を受け、また長老等及び祭司長等並び に学者等いり棄てられ、また殺され、また三日目の後に立ち上がらざるべからず、と彼等を教へ始め給へり。

新改訳　それから、人の子は必ず多くの栗しみを受け、長老、祭司長、律法学者たちに捨てられ、殺され、三日の後によみがえらなければならないと、弟子たちに教え始められた。

And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

３２ 永井訳　また彼はこの言を明かに話たり給へり。乃ちペテロ進みて彼を執（とら）へ叱 し始めたり。

新改訳　しかも、はっきりとこの事がらを話された。するとペテロは、イエスをわきにお連れして、いさめ始めた。

And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

３３ 永井訳　然るに彼は振り返り、且つ弟子等を見つつ、ペテロの叱して云ひ給ひけるは、我が後に往け、サタナ。そは汝は神の事を念（おも）はず、されど人の事を〔念ふ〕が故なり。

新改訳　しかし、イエスは振り向いて、弟子たちを見ながら、ペテロをしかって言われ た。「下がれ。サタン。あなたは神のことを思わないで、人のことを思っている。」

But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

３４ 永井訳　かくて弟子等と同（とも）に群集を召して、彼等に曰へり、誰ぞもし我に跟き来たらんと欲せば、己自らを否み、且つ己が十字架を負ひ、かくて我に従ふべし。

新改訳　それから、イエスは群集を弟子たちといっしょに呼び寄せて、彼らに言われた。「だれでもわたしについて来たいと思うなら、自分を捨て、自分の十字架を負い、そしてわたしについて来なさい。

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

永井訳　そは誰にても、その魂を救はんと欲する者はこれを亡ふべく、されど誰にてもわれのために、また福音の〔ため〕に、その魂を亡ふ者、此の者はこれを 救ふべければなり。

新改訳　いのちを救おうと思う者はそれを失い、わたしと復員のために命を失う者はそれを救うのです。

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

３６ 永井訳　人もし全世界を儲けて、その魂を損せば、何の益あらんや。

新改訳　人は、たとい全世界を得ても、命を損じたら、何の得がありましょう。 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

３７ 永井訳　或は人何を与へてその魂に換ふべけんや。

新改訳　自分のいのちを買い戻すために、人はいったい何を差し出すことができるでしょう。

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

３８ 永井訳　そは誰にても、姦（よこしま）にして罪深き此の代にて、我と我が言とを耻づ る者は、人の子もその父の栄光のうちに、聖なる使等と共に来たらんとき、これを耻づべきなり。

新改訳　このような姦淫と罪の時代にあって、わたしとわたしのことばを恥じるような 者なら、人の子も、栄光を帯びて聖なる御使いたちとともに来るときには、そのような人のことを耻じます。」

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
