1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, He said to His disciples,
1 When the morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death.
2 "You know that after two days is the Feast of the Passover, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to be crucified."
2 And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3 Then the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled together in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
3 Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, observing that He was con-demned, was remorseful and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,
4 and consulted that they might take Jesus deceitfully and kill Him.
4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying the innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!”
5 But they said, "Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people."
5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hung himself.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,
6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because it is the payment for blood.”
7 a woman came to Him having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on His head as He sat at the table.
7 And they took counsel and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
8 But when His disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "To what purpose is this waste?
8 Therefore that field has been called, the Field of Blood, to this day.
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor."
9 Then was fulfilled what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him that was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced,
10 When Jesus understood it, He said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has worked a good work for Me.
10 and gave them for the potter’s field, as the LORD directed me.”
11 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.
11 Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.”
12 For in that she has poured this ointment on My body, she did it for My burial.
12 And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not reply.
13 Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that what this woman has done shall also be told, for a memorial of her."
13 Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?”
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
14 But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marvel-ed greatly.
15 and said to them, "What will you give me, and I will deliver Him to you?" And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
15 Now at that feast the governor was accustomed to release to the people a prisoner, whoever they desired.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.
16 And at that time they had an infamous prisoner called Barabbas.
17 Now the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?"
17 Therefore, when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
18 And He said, "Go into the city to such a man, and say to him, 'The Master says, "My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples."'"
18 Because, he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them, and they made ready the Passover.
19 while he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, because, I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.”
20 Now when evening had come, He sat down with the twelve.
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowds that they should    ask    for    Barabbas    and

destroy Jesus.
22 And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and every one of them began to say to Him, "Lord, is it I?"
21 The governor responded and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!”
23 And He answered and said, "He who dips his hand with Me in the dish, the same shall betray Me.
22 Pilate said to them, “What shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”
24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."
23 And the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they shouted out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
25 Then Judas, who betrayed Him, answered and said, "Master, is it I?" He said to him, "You have said it."
24 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that an uproar occurred, he took water, and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.”
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take. Eat. This is My body."
25 Then all the people replied and said, “His blood be upon us, and upon our children.”
27 And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink it, all of you.
26 Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.
28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall and gathered the entire garrison of soldiers around Him.
29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."
28 And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
31 Then Jesus said to them, "All of you shall be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.'
30 Then they spat on Him, and took

the reed and struck Him on the head.
33 Peter answered and said to Him, "Though all men shall be made to stumble because of You, yet I will never be made to stumble."
31 And after they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
34 Jesus said to him, "Truly I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you shall deny Me three times."
32 Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled him to carry His cross.
35 Peter said to Him, "Though I should die with You, still I will not deny You." All the disciples also said likewise.
33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull,
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane and said to the disciples, "Sit here while I go and pray over there."
34 they gave Him vinegar to drink mixed with gall. But when He had tasted of it, He would not drink.
37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His clothes, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet: “They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.”
38 Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch with Me."
36 And sitting down, they kept watch over Him there.
39 And He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."
37 And they put over His head the charge written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
40 And He came to the disciples and found them asleep, and said to Peter, "What, could you not watch with Me one hour?
38 Then two thieves were crucified with Him, one on the right, and another on the left.
41 Watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
39 And those who passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads
42 He went away again the second time and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done."
40 and saying, “You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.
41 Likewise the chief priests also, mocking Him with the scribes and elders, said,
44 And He left them and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
42 “He saved others; He cannot save
45 Then He came to His disciples and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Himself! If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.
46 Rise, let us be going. Behold, he who betrays Me is at hand."
43 He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him; since He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ “
47 And while He yet spoke, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
44 The thieves also, who were crucified with Him, threw the same thing in His face.
48 Now he who betrayed Him gave them a sign, saying, "Whomever I kiss, that same is He. Hold Him fast."
45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.
49 And immediately he came to Jesus and said, "Hail, Master," and kissed Him.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus shouted out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is to say, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
50 And Jesus said to him, "Friend, why have you come?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.
47 Some of those who stood there when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah.”
51 And behold, one of those who was with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, they put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.
52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put up your sword into its place again, for all those who take the sword shall perish with the sword.
49 The rest said, “Leave Him alone; let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him.”
53 Do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve legions of angels?
50 Jesus shouted out again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit.
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be this way?"
51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to the bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks split open,
55 In that same hour Jesus said to the multitudes, "Have you come out, as against a thief, with swords and clubs to take Me? Daily I sat with you teaching in the temple, and you did not take hold of Me.
52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who were asleep were raised up,
56 But all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples abandoned Him and fled.
53 and came out of the graves after His resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared to many.
57 And those who had taken hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council sought false witness against Jesus to put Him to death,

57 Now when the evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus’ disciple.
62 And the high priest arose and said to Him, "Do you answer nothing? What is it that these men testify against You?"
58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given.
63 But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God."
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
64 Jesus said to him, "You have said it. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of Power and coming in the clouds of heaven."
60 and laid it in his own new tomb which he had cut out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed.
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy. What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard His blasphemy.
61 And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting oppo-site the tomb.
66 What do you think?" They answered and said, "He is guilty of death."
62 On the next day, which followed the Day of the Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gather-ed together to Pilate,
67 Then they spat in His face and beat Him, and others struck Him with the palms of their hands,

70 But he denied before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are saying."
65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you can.”
71 And when he had gone out onto the porch, another maid saw him and said to those who were there, "This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth."
66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and set-ting the guard.
72 And again he denied with an oath, "I do not know the man."
73 And after a while those who stood by came to him and said to Peter, "Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you."
74 Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, "I do not know the man." And immediately the rooster crowed.
75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you shall deny Me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.
