Minuscule 396

Minuscule 396 (in the Gregory-Aland numbering), ε 217 (Soden), is a Greek minuscule manuscript of the New Testament, on parchment. Paleographically it had been assigned to the 12th century.^[1]

Description

The codex contains the text of the four Gospels on 115 parchment leaves (22.4 cm by 16.5 cm) with one large lacunae (Matthew 1:1-23:27). Written in one column per page, in 27 lines per page, in silver.^[1] It contains the tables of κεφαλαια, κεφαλαια, τιτλοι, Ammonian Sections (Mark 240), Eusebian Canons.^[2][3]

Text

The Greek text of the codex is a representative of the Byzantine text-type. Aland placed it in Category V.^[4]

History

The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by Scholz (1794-1852).^[5]

It was examined by Scholz, Gebhart, and Gregory.^[2]

The manuscript is currently housed at the Vatican Library (Chis. R IV 6 (gr. 6) in Rome.^[1]
