1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus,
1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus saying,
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works display themselves in him.”
2 “Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? Because they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”
3 Because, Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
3 But He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
4 Because, John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.
4 Because, God commanded, saying, Honor your father and mother; and, He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.
5 And when he wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowds, because, they considered him to be a prophet.
5 But you say, ‘Whosoever says to his father or his mother, “Whatever profit you may have received from me has become a gift,
6 But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.
6 and does not honor his father or his mother, because he will be exempt.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
7 So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.
7 You hypocrites! Isaiah correctly prophesied about you, saying:
8 So she being instructed beforehand by her mother said, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.”
8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
9 And the king was grieved: nevertheless because of the oath’s sake and those who sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given to her.
9 But in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the com-mandments of men.’ ”
10 So he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
10 Then He called the crowds and said to them, “Hear and under-stand:
11 And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.
12 Then his disciples came, and took away the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”
13 When Jesus heard this, He departed from there by boat into a deserted place by Himself. But when the crowds heard of it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.
13 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.
14 And Jesus went out and saw a large crowd; and was moved with compassion for them and He healed their sick.
14 Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”
15 Now when it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a desert place, and the hour is already late. Send the crowds away, that they may go into the villages and buy sustenance for themselves.”
15 Then Peter replied and said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”
16 But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to leave. You give them something to eat.
16 And Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding?
17 And they said to Him, “We have only five loaves, and two fish with us.”
17 Do you still not understand that whatever enters into the mouth goes into the stomach, and is cast out into the drain?
18 He said, “Bring them here to Me.”
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
19 Then He commanded the crowds to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke, and gave the loaves to His disciples; and the disciples to the crowds.
19 Because, out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

22 And immediately Jesus made His disciples to get into a boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away.
21 Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
23 And when He had sent the crowds away, He went up on a mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was there alone.
22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region, and shouted out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, You Son of David! My daughter is severely tormented with a demon.”
24 But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, tossed by the waves, because the wind was contrary.
23 But He did not reply one word to her. And His disciples came and asked Him, saying, “Send her away; because, she shouts out to us.”
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
24 But He replied and said, “I am not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a spirit!” And they shouted out through fear.
25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be cheerful! It is Me; do not be afraid.”
26 But He replied and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread, and cast it to dogs.”
28 And Peter replied to Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, tell me to come to You on the water.”
27 And she said, “True, Lord, yet the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
29 And He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
28 Then Jesus replied and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
30 But when he saw the wind was strong, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he shouted out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
29 Then Jesus left there, and came near to the sea of Galilee, and went up on a mountain, and sat down there.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand, and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
