   3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, because the sky is red and overcast.’ O you hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times?
   4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
   4 A wicked and adulterous gen-eration seeks after a sign; and there will be no sign given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them, and departed.
   5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him
   5 Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
   6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
   6 Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sad-ducees.”

   10 And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
  11 How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak this to you concerning bread, but that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?”
   11 I indeed baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than me, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
   12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
   12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
  13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I the Son of Man, am?”
   13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
  14 So they said, “Some  say that  You are John the Baptist, some, Elijah, and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”
   14 But John prevented Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?
  15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
   15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, because it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
   16 And Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
   16 And when He was baptized, Jesus
  17 And Jesus replied and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, because flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him.
   18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
   17 And behold a voice from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
  19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you will bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you will loose  on  earth  will  be  loosed  in heaven.
   20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should not tell anyone that He was Jesus the Christ.
   21 From that time forward Jesus began to show to His disciples how that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
   22 Then Peter took Him aside, and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Let this be far from You Lord; this will not happen to You!
   23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me Satan! You are an offense to Me, because, you are not thinking things that are of God, but those that are of man.”
  24 Then said Jesus to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
   25 Because, whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever desires to lose his life for My sake will find it.
  26 Because, what does a man profit if he gains the entire world, and loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
  27 Because, the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward everyone according to his works.
   28 Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death, until they see the Son of Man
coming in His kingdom.
