  1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowd and to His disciples,
1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
  2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
  3 Everything then, whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; because they preach, and do not practice.
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
  4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to carry, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they them-selves will not move them with one of their fingers.
4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
  5 But they do their works to be seen by men. They make their phylac-teries broad and enlarge the edges of their garments.
5 While the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
  6 They love the best places at feasts, the first seats in the synagogues,
6 "And at midnight there was a cry made: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming. Go out to meet him.'
  7 greetings  in  the markets,  and  to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
  8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, that is, Christ, and you are all brethren.
8 And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
  9 And do  not  call  anyone  on  earth your father; because One is your Father, who is in heaven.
9 But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there be not enough for us and you. But go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'
  10 Nor  be  called  teachers;  because One is your Teacher, that is, Christ.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
  11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
11 "Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.'
  12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
12 But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'
  13 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; For you neither go in your-selves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.
13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
  14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers. Therefore you will receive the greater dam-nation.
14 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants and delivered to them his goods.
  15 Woe to you, scribes and Phari-sees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to make one proselyte, and when he is con-verted, you make him twice as much the child of hell as your-selves.
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to every man according to his separate ability, and immediately took his journey.
  16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated!’
16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them another five talents.
  17 You fools and blind! Because which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
17 And likewise he who had received two, he gained two others also.
  18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
18 But he who had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord's money.
  19 You fools and blind! Because which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
  20 Therefore whoever swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it.
20 "And so he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained five more talents besides them.'
  21 And whoever swears by the temple, swears by it, and by Him who dwells in it.
21 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
  22 And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits upon it.
22 He who had received two talents also came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.'
  23 Woe    to    you,      scribes    and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because, you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. You should have done these, without leaving the others undone.
23 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
  24 You blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel!
24 "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered.
  25 “Woe to you, scribes and Phari-sees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and excess.
25 And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, there you have what is yours.'
  26 You blind Pharisee, first cleanse that which is inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
26 "His lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I have not scattered.
  27 “Woe to you, scribes and Phari-sees, hypocrites! Because, you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
27 Therefore you ought to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with interest.
  28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.  
28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.'
  29 “Woe to you, scribes and Phari-sees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
29 'For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance. But from him who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away.
  30 and say, ‘If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
30 And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
  31 “Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are the children  of  those  who  killed  the prophets.
31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit on the throne of His glory.
  32 Fill up then the measure of your fathers.
32 And all nations shall be gathered before Him, and He shall separate them from one another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
  33 You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell?
33 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
  34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes: and some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city,
34 Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
  35 that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
35 For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
  36 Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this gen-eration.
36 naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
  37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets, and stone those who are sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
37 "Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You drink?
  38 Behold! Your house is left to you desolate;
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in? Or naked and clothe You?
  39 because, I say to you, You will see Me no more until you shall say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD.’ “
39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
40 And the King shall answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, because you have done it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.'
41 "Then He shall also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; naked and you did not clothe me; sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
44 Then they also shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
45 Then He shall answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, because you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
