1 And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves,
1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 and was transfigured before them. And His face shone like the sun, and His clothing was white as the light.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him.
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him."
5 While the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.
6 "And at midnight there was a cry made: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming. Go out to meet him.'
7 And Jesus came and touched them and said, "Arise, and do not be afraid."
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man except Jesus only.
8 And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, "Tell the vision to no man until the Son of Man has risen again from the dead."
9 But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there be not enough for us and you. But go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'
10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
11 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly, Elijah shall come first and restore all things.
11 "Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.'
12 But I say to you that Elijah has already come, and they did not know him but have done to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man shall also suffer from them."
12 But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'
13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.
13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
14 And when they had come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to Him and saying,
14 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants and delivered to them his goods.
15 "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is insane and greatly vexed. For often he falls into the fire and often into the water.
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to every man according to his separate ability, and immediately took his journey.
16 And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him."
16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them another five talents.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me."
17 And likewise he who had received two, he gained two others also.
18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and he departed out of him. And the child was cured from that very hour.
18 But he who had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord's money.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus by themselves and said, "Why could we not cast him out?"
19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 And Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Move from here to a distant place,' and it shall move, and nothing shall be impossible for you.
20 "And so he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained five more talents besides them.'
21 However, this kind does not go out but by prayer and fasting."
21 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
22 And while they remained in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man shall be betrayed into the hands of men,
22 He who had received two talents also came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.'
23 and they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised again." And they were exceedingly sorry.
23 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
24 And when they had come to Capernaum, those who received tribute money came to Peter and said, "Does your Master not pay tribute?"
24 "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered.
25 He said, "Yes." And when he had come into the house, Jesus said to him first, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? From their own children or from strangers?"
25 And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, there you have what is yours.'
26 Peter said to Him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Then the children are free.
26 "His lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I have not scattered.
27 However, lest we should offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. And when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a piece of money. Take that and give it to them for Me and you."
27 Therefore you ought to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with interest.
28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.'
29 'For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance. But from him who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away.
30 And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit on the throne of His glory.
32 And all nations shall be gathered before Him, and He shall separate them from one another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
37 "Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You drink?
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in? Or naked and clothe You?
39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
40 And the King shall answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, because you have done it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.'
41 "Then He shall also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; naked and you did not clothe me; sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
44 Then they also shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
45 Then He shall answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, because you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
