  1 And seeing the crowds, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.
1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
  2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
  3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
  4 Blessed  are  those  who  mourn, because  they  will  be  comforted.
4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
  5 Blessed are the meek, because they will inherit the earth.
5 While the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
  6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, because they will be filled.
6 "And at midnight there was a cry made: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming. Go out to meet him.'
  7 Blessed are the merciful, because they will obtain mercy.
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
  8 Blessed are the pure in heart, because they will see God.
8 And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
  9 Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called the children of God.
9 But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there be not enough for us and you. But go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'
  10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
  11 “Blessed are you, when men revile you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for My sake.
11 "Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.'
  12 Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, because great is your reward in heaven, because they also persecuted the prophets who were before you.
12 But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'
  13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men.
13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
  14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
14 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants and delivered to them his goods.
  15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to every man according to his separate ability, and immediately took his journey.
  16 Let your light shine like this before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father
16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them another five talents.
 
17 And likewise he who had received two, he gained two others also.

18 But he who had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord's money.
  17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
  18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law, until all is fulfilled.
20 "And so he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained five more talents besides them.'
  19 Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments, but teaches men so, he will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, they will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
21 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
  20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter into the kingdom of heaven.
22 He who had received two talents also came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.'
  21 “You have heard that it was said by those of old times, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
23 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
  22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. And whoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of hell fire.
24 "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered.
  23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,
25 And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, there you have what is yours.'
  24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled  to  your  brother,   and  
26 "His lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I have not scattered.
 
27 Therefore you ought to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with interest.
then come and offer your gift.
28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.'
  25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest at any time your adversary  deliver  you to the judge,
29 'For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance. But from him who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away.
and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
30 And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
  26 Truly, I say to you, you will by no means come out of there until you have paid the last penny.
31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit on the throne of His glory.
  27 “You have heard that it was said by those of old times, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
32 And all nations shall be gathered before Him, and He shall separate them from one another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
  28 But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
33 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
  29 And if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out, and throw it away from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your entire body be thrown into hell.
34 Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
  30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your entire body be thrown into hell.
35 For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
  31 “It has been said, ‘whoever puts away his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’
36 naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
  32 But I say to you, that whoever puts away his wife for any reason except sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever  marries  a woman  who  is
37 "Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You drink?
 
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in? Or naked and clothe You?
divorced commits adultery.
39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
  33 “Again, you have heard that it has been said to those of old times, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’
40 And the King shall answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, because you have done it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.'
  34 But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, because it is God’s throne;
41 "Then He shall also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
  35 nor by the earth, because it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King.
42 For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
  36 Neither shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; naked and you did not clothe me; sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
  37 But let your communication be, ‘yes,’ ‘yes,’ or ‘no,’ ‘no.’ Because whatever goes beyond these is from evil.
44 Then they also shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
  38 “You have heard that it has been said, ‘ An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
45 Then He shall answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, because you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
  39 But I say to you that you should not resist a wicked person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
  40 And if anyone wants to sue you at the law and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
  41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go two with him.
  42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
  43 “You have heard that it has been said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
  44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you,  
do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
  45 that you may be the children of your  Father  who  is  in   heaven; for He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
  46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you gain? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
  47 And if you only greet your brethren, what do you do more than others? Do not even tax collectors do so?
  48 Therefore be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
