1 "Take heed that you do not do your deeds of charity before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 Therefore when you do your deeds of charity, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 But when you do deeds of charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does,
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
4 that your deeds of charity may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret shall Himself reward you openly.
4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 "And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
5 While the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
6 But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly.
6 "And at midnight there was a cry made: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming. Go out to meet him.'
7 But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they shall be heard for their many words."
7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
8 "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask Him.
8 And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
9 Therefore, pray according to this manner:
9 But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there be not enough for us and you. But go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'
10 Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
11 "Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.'
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
12 But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
14 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants and delivered to them his goods.
15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, your Father will not forgive your trespasses.
15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to every man according to his separate ability, and immediately took his journey.
16 "Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad face. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward.
16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them another five talents.
17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
17 And likewise he who had received two, he gained two others also.
18 that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
18 But he who had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord's money.
19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break in and steal.
19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, and where thieves do not break in or steal.
20 "And so he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained five more talents besides them.'
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
21 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
22 "The light of the body is the eye. Therefore if your eye is healthy, your whole body shall be full of light.
22 He who had received two talents also came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.'
23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. Therefore if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
23 His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
24 "No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and riches.
24 "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered.
25 "Therefore I say to you, do not worry for your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, or yet for your body, what you shall put on. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing?
25 And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, there you have what is yours.'
26 Behold the fowls of the air, for they do not sow; they neither reap nor gather into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you much more valuable than they are?
26 "His lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I have not scattered.
27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
27 Therefore you ought to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with interest.
28 "And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they do not toil, nor do they spin,
28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.'
29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
29 'For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance. But from him who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away.
30 Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
30 And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'With what shall we be clothed?'
31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He shall sit on the throne of His glory.
32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
32 And all nations shall be gathered before Him, and He shall separate them from one another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
33 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow shall worry about its own things. The day has enough of its own trouble."
34 Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
37 "Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You drink?
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in? Or naked and clothe You?
39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
40 And the King shall answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, because you have done it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.'
41 "Then He shall also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; naked and you did not clothe me; sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
44 Then they also shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
45 Then He shall answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, because you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
