1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him to show to His servants things that must shortly come to pass. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,
2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
2 who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, and to all things that he saw.
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.
3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things that are written in it, for the time is at hand.
4 But He replied and said, “It is written, ‘Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
4 John, to the seven churches that are in Asia: grace and peace be to you from Him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits that are before His throne,
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, and set Him on a pinnacle of the temple,
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the firstborn of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. Because it is written: ‘He will give His angels orders concerning You,and, ‘in their hands they will hold You up, lest at any time You strike Your foot against a stone.’”
6 and has made us kings and priests to God and His Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’”
7 Behold, He comes with clouds, and every eye shall see Him, and also those who pierced Him. And all tribes of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen.
8 Again, the devil took Him up onto a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.
8 "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending," says the Lord, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
9 And he said to Him, “I will give You all these things, if You will fall down and worship me.”
9 I, John, who also am your brother and companion in tribulation and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Leave Satan! Because it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.’”
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11 Then the devil left Him, and, behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
11 saying, "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last," and, "What you see, write in a book, and send it to the seven churches that are in Asia: to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamum, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."
12 Now when Jesus had heard that John had been thrown into prison, He departed to Galilee.
12 And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks,
13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea coast, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,
13 and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet, and girded about the chest with a golden girdle.
14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying:
14 His head and His hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like a flame of fire.
15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:
15 And His feet like fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace, and His voice like the sound of many waters.
16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great Light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”
16 And He had in His right hand seven stars, and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not fear; I am the first and the last.
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; because they were fishermen.
18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of hell and of death."
19 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.
19 "Write the things that you have seen, and the things that are, and the things that shall be hereafter.
20 And they immediately left their nets, and followed Him.
20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in My right hand and the seven golden candlesticks: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven candlesticks that you saw are the seven churches."
21 And going on from there, He saw two more brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them.
22 And immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
23 Then Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all types of sickness and every kind of disease among the people.
24 And His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him every sick person who was afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were possessed with demons, those who were insane, and paralytics; and He healed them.
25 And large crowds of people followed Him from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
