  1 The    Pharisees    along    with    the Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
  2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, because the sky is red’;
3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
  3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, because the sky is red and overcast.’ O you hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times?
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.
  4 A wicked and adulterous gen-eration seeks after a sign; and there will be no sign given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them, and departed.
5 These twelve Jesus sent out, and commanded them, saying, “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans.
  5 Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 But rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
  6 Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sad-ducees.
7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

  10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand  and    how    many  huge baskets you took up?
11 “Now whatever city or town you go into, inquire who is worthy in it, and abide there until you go from it.
  11 How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak this to you concerning bread, but that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?”
12 And when you go into a household, greet it.
  12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
13 And if the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
  13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I the Son of Man, am?”
14 And whoever shall not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.
  14 So they said, “Some  say  that You are John the Baptist, some, Elijah, and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
15 Truly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!
  15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
  16 And Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 But beware of men, because, they will deliver you up to councils and they will scourge you in their synagogues.
  17 And Jesus replied and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, because flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 And you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
  18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you shall speak. Because, it will be given to you in that same hour what you shall speak;
  19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you will bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you will loose  on  earth  will  be  loosed  in heaven.
20 because it is not you who is speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
  20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should not tell anyone that He was Jesus the Christ.
21 “Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and the children will rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death.
  21 From that time forward Jesus began to show to His disciples how that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 And you will be hated by all people for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
  22 Then Peter took Him aside, and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Let this be far from You Lord; this will not happen to You!”
23 But when they persecute you in one city, flee to another. Because, truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel, before the Son of Man comes.
  23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me Satan! You are an offense to Me, because, you are not thinking things that are of God, but those that are of man.

  24 Then said Jesus to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
