==History==
The Cyrillic letter Ukrainian Ye was derived from the [[Epsilon (letter)|Greek letter Epsilon]] (Ε, ε).

In the [[Early Cyrillic alphabet]] its name was {{Script|Cyrs|єсть}} (''estĭ''), meaning "am" or "is" - present tense from "to be".

In the [[Cyrillic numerals|Cyrillic numeral system]], Ukrainian Ye had a value of 5.

==Usage==
Ukrainian Ye is used in [[Ukrainian language|Ukrainian]] and [[Rusyn language|Rusyn]] to represent {{IPA|/je/}}, or the [[iotation|iotated]] vowel sound {{IPA|/e/}} after a palatalized consonant.
