a　かくて夜明に及びて直に祭司長等は、長老等及び学者等と共に協議即ち全議会を開き、イエスを縛りて連れ往き、且つピラトに付（わた）せり。

b　夜が明けるとすぐに、祭司長たちをはじめ、長老、律法学者たちと、全議会とは協議をこらしたすえ、イエスを縛って連れ出し、ピラトに引き渡した。

And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

a　さればピラトは彼に問へり、汝はユダヤ人の王なるや。乃ちかれに答へて曰へり、汝は云ふ。

b　ピラトはイエスに尋ねた。「あなたは、ユダヤ人の王ですか。」イエスは答えて言われた。「そのとおりです。」

And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto them, Thou sayest it.

a　また祭司長等しきりに訴へたり。

b　そこで、祭司長たちはイエスをきびしく訴えた。

And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

４

a　かくてピラトは復た問へり、云ひけるは、汝は何をも答へざるか。彼等は如何に多くの事を汝に逆らいて証するかを見よ。

b　ピラトはもう一度イエスに尋ねて言った。「何も答えないのですか。見なさい。彼らはあんなにまであなたを訴えているのです。」

And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.

a　されどイエスはもはや何をも答へ給はざりく。さればピラトを驚かせり。

b　それでも、イエスは何もお答えにならなかった。それにはピラトも驚いた。

But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.

６

a　また節会に当りて彼は誰にても、人々の求むる一〔人の〕囚人を釈（ゆる）したり。

b　ところでピラトは、その祭りには、人々の願う囚人をひとりだけ赦免するのを例としていた。

Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they
desired.

７

a　かくて一揆に組みしたる者と共に縛られたるバラバと云ふ者ありき。彼等は一揆のときに人殺を為しそ者なり。

b　たまたま、バラバという者がいて、暴動のとき人殺しをした暴徒たちといっしょに牢にはいっていた。

And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

８

a　されば群衆叫び出でて、彼が常に為したる如く〔為さんこと〕を求めたり。

b　それで、群集は進んで行って、いつものようにしてもらうことを、ピラトに要求し始めた。

And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

９

a　さればピラト彼等に答へたり、云ひけるは、汝等はユダヤ人の王を汝等に我が釈さんことを欲するや。

b　そこでピラロは、彼らに答えて、「このユダヤ人の王を釈放してくれというのか。」と言った。

But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

a　そは彼は嫉（そねみ）のゆゑに祭司長らの彼を付ししことを知りたればなり。

b　ピラトは祭司長たちが、ねたみからイエスを引き渡したことに、気づいていたからである。

For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.

１１

a　然るに祭司長等は、彼の反ってバラバを彼等に釈すよう、群集を煽り立てたり。

b　しかし、祭司長たちは群集を扇動して、むしろバラバを釈放してまらいたいと言わせた。

But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

１２

a　さればピラト答へて復た彼等にいへり、是の故に汝等はユダヤ人の王と汝等の云ふ者に、何を我が為さんことを欲するや。

b　そこで、ピラトはもう一度答えて、「ではいったい、あなたがたがユダヤ人の王と呼んでいるあの人を、私にどうせ
よというのか。」と言った。

And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

１３

a　然るに彼等復た叫び出でたり、彼を十字架につけよ。

b　すると彼らはまたも「十字架につけろ。」と叫んだ。

And they cried out again, Crucify him.

１４

a　乃ちピラト彼等に云へり、然らば何の悪しき〔こと〕をけれは為ししや。されど彼等増々叫び出だせり、彼を十字架につけゆ。

b　だが、ピラトは彼らに、「あの人がどんな悪い事をしたというのか。」と言った。しかし、彼らはますます激しく「十字架につけろ。」と叫んだ。

Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

１５

a　乃ちピラトは群集のために、その満足とするところを為さんと思いて、バラバを釈せり。かくて鞭（むちうち）て〔のち〕、十字架につけられ給ふために、イエスを付したり。

b　それで、ピラトは群集のきげんをとろうと思い、バラバを釈放した。そして、イエスをむち打って後、十字架につけるようにと引き渡した。

And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

１６

a　かくて兵士等は彼を中庭の内に、即ち庁（やくしょ）に連れ往き、且つ全隊を召し集めたり。

b　兵士たちはイエスを、邸宅、すなわち総督官邸の中に連れて行き、全部隊を呼び集めた。

And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.

１７

a　かくて彼等は、紫色の〔袍＝うわぎ〕を彼に纏はせ、また茨の冠を編みてかむらしめたり。

b　そしてイエスに紫の衣を着せ、いばらの冠を編んでかぶらせ、

And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

a　かくて彼等は、慶（めでた）し、ユダヤ人の王、と挨拶し始めたり。

b　それから、「ユダヤ人の王さま。ばんざい。」と叫んであいさつし始めた。

And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

１９

a　また彼等は葦にて彼の頭を打てり。また彼に唾せり。また膝を屈めて彼に平伏（ひれふ）せり。

b　また、葦の棒でイエスの頭をたたいたり、つばきをかけたり、ひざまずいて拝んだりしていた。

And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

２０

a　また彼等は嘲弄せしとき、紫色〔袍＝うわぎ〕を剥ぎ取りて己がものなる彼の衣を着せたり。かくて十字架につけんとて、彼を連れ出だせり。

b　彼らはイエスを嘲弄したあげく、その紫の衣を脱がせて、もとの着物をイエスに着せた。それから、イエスを十字架につけるために連れ出した。

And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

２１

a　然るにアレキザンドロとルポの父なるクレネ人シモンなる者、畠より来りて通りかかりければ、彼等は彼の十字架を負ふようにこれを強ひたり。

b　そこへ、アレキサンデルとルポスとの父で、シモンというクレネ人が、いなかから出て来て通りかかったので、彼らはイエスの十字架を、むるやりに彼に背負わせた。

And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

２２

a　かくて彼等はゴルゴダ、即ち譯すれば髑髏の場所なる処に彼を連れ往きて、

b　そして、彼らはイエスをゴルゴタの場所（訳すと、「どくろ」の場所）へ連れて行った。

And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

２３

a　没薬を和（ま）ぜたる葡萄酒を彼に飲ましめたり。されど彼は受け給はざりき。

b　そして彼らは、没薬を混ぜたぶどう酒をイエスに与えようとしたが、イエスはお飲みにならなかった。

And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

２４

a　かくて彼を十字架につけし〔後〕、彼等は誰が何を取るべきやと籤を取りて、彼の衣を頒てり。

b　それから、彼らは、イエスを）十字架につけた。そして、だれが何を取るかをくじ引きで決めたうえで、イエスの着物を分けた。

And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

２５

a　また第三時なりき、乃ち彼等は彼を十字架につけたり。

b　彼らがイエスを十字架につけたのは、午前九時であった。

And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

２６

a　また、ユダヤ人の王、と彼の訴状は書き上げられたり。

b　イエスの罪状書きには、「ユダヤ人の王。」と書いてあった。

And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

２７

a　また彼と同に彼等は二〔人〕の強盗を、一を彼の右手に、一をその左手にて十字架につく。

b　また彼らは、イエスとともにふたりの強盗を、ひとりは右に、ひとりは左に、十字架につけた。

And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

２８

a　かくて、されば彼は不法者のうちに数へられたり、と云ふ聖書は成就せられたり。

b　（bにはこの節なし）

And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

２９

a　また傍を往く人々彼を冒（けが）し、その頭を動かし、且つ云ひかるは、ああ、聖所を壊（やぶ）り且つ三日にて建つる者よ、

b　道を行く人々は、頭を振りながらイエスをののしって言った。「おお、神殿を
打ちこわして三日で建てる人よ。

And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

３０

a　汝自身を救へ、且つ十字架より下りよ。

b　十字架から降りて来て、自分を救ってみろ。」

Save thyself, and come down from the cross.　　　　　　

３１

a　また祭司長等も等しく、学者等と共に互に嘲弄して云へり、彼は佗の者を救へり、己自らを救ふこと能はず。

b　また、祭司長たちも同じように、律法学者たちといっしょになって、イエスをあざけって言った。「他人は救ったが、自分は救えない。

Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

３２

a　キリスト、イスラエルの王は我等の見て信ずるために、今十字架より下るべし。また同に十字架につけられたる者どもも彼を謗（そし）れり。

b　キリスト、イスラエルの王さま。たった今、十字架から降りてもらおうか。われわれは、それを見たら信じるから。」また、イエスといっしょに十字架につけられた者たちもイエスをののしった。

Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

３３

a　また第六時になりしとき、遍く地の上暗くなりて、第九時にめでに〔到れり〕。

b　さて、十二時になったとき、全地が暗くなって、午後三時まで続いた。

And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

３４

a　また第九時にイエスは、エロイ、エロイ、ランマ、サバクタニ、と云ひつつ大声に叫び給へり、即ち訳すれば、我が神、我が神、何とて我を見捨て給ひしや、となり。

b　そして、三時に、イエスは大声で、「エロイ、エロイ、ラマ、サバクタニ。」と叫ばれた。それは訳すと「わが神、わが神。どうしてわたしをお見捨てになったのですか。」という意味である。

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

３５

a　されば傍に立てる者のうちの或る者聞きて云へり、見よ、彼はエリヤを呼ぶ。

b　そばにたっていた幾人かが、これを聞いて、「そら、エリラを呼んでいる。」と言った。

And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

３６

a　乃ち一〔人〕走り〔往き〕て酢を海綿に満たし、それを葦につけて、彼に飲ましめたり。云ひけるは、差しおけ、エリヤ来たりて彼を取り下ろすや否や、我等をして見せしめよ。

b　すると、ひとりが走って行って、海綿に酸いぶどう酒を含ませ、それを葦の棒につけて、イエスに飲ませようとしながら言った。「エリヤがやって来て、彼を降ろすかどうか、私たちは見ることにすよう。」

And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

３７

a　かくてイエス大声を放ちて息絶へ給へり。

b　それから、イエスは大声をあげて息を引き取られた。

And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

３８

a　また聖所の幔（まんまく）は上より下まで、二つに裂けたり。

b　神殿の幕が上から下まで真二つに裂けた。

And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

３９

a　また彼に対ひて立ちたる百人長は、かく叫び出でて、彼の息絶え給ひしを見て、いへり、真に此の人は神の子におはしき。

b　イエスの正面に立っていた百人隊長は、イエスがこのように息を引き取られらのを見て、「この方はまことに神の子であった。」と言った。

And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

４０

a　また婦等も遠くより見てありき。そのうちにはマグダラのマリア、また小ヤコブとヨセとの母なるマリア、またザロメもありき。

b　また、遠くのほうから見ていた女たちもいた。その中にはマグダラのマリヤと、小ヤコブとヨセの母マリヤと、またサロメもいた。

There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

４１

a　彼等は彼のガリラヤにおはししとき、これに従ひ事（つか）へたる者にて、別に彼に伴ひてエロソルマに上りし多くの〔婦等もありき〕。

b　イエスがガリラヤにおられたとき、いつもつき従って仕えていた女たちである。このほかにも、イエスといっしょにエルサレムに上って来た女たちがたくさんいた。

(Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

４２

a　かくて既に夕となりしとき、備日即ち安息日の前日なりしゆゑに、

b　すっかり夕方になった。その日は備えの日、すなわち安息日の前日であったので、

And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

４３

a　アリマタヤよりの者にて、貴き議員なるヨセフ到れり。彼は己自らも神の国を待ち望みつつありき。彼は憚からずピラトの許に入り往れり、且つイエスの體を求めたり。

b　アリマタヤのヨセフは、思い切ってピラトのところに行き、イエスのからだの下げ渡しを願った。ユセフは有力な議員であり、みずからも神の国を待ち望んでいた人であった。

Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

４４

a　さればピラト、彼は既に死にしかと異（あや）しめり。乃ち百人長を召して、彼の死にて時を経しや否やを問へり。

b　ピラトは、イエスがもう死んだのかと驚いて、百人隊長を呼び出し、イエスが
すでに死んでしまったかどうかを問いただした。

And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.

４５

a　かくて枯れは百人長より〔それを〕知りて、その體をヨセフに与へたり。

b　そして、百人隊長からそうと確かめてから、イエスのからだをヨセフに与えた。

And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

４６

a　乃ち彼は麻布を買ひ、彼を取り下ろして、その麻布にて巻けり。かくてこれを岩に鑿（ほ）りたる墓のうちに置けり。また石をその墓の入り口の転ばしたり。

b　そこで、ヨセフは亜麻布を買い、イエスを取り降ろしてその亜麻布に包み、岩を掘って造った墓に納めた。墓の入り口には石をころがしかけといた。

And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

４７

a　またマグダラのマリアまたヨセの〔母なる〕マリアは彼の置かれ給ひし処を看たり。

b　マグダラのマリヤとヨセの母マリヤとは、イエスの納められる所をよく見ていた。

And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
