New page

Homoioarcton, means “same beginning,” and is the inverse error of homoioteleuton. Homoioarcton occurs when scribe’s eye skips from one occurrence of word, phrase, or sequence of letters to similar sequence further down the page.

Much like [[homoioteleuton]], homoioarcton errors can produce nonsense, but at times basic errors. Homoioarcton is noted in the Nestle-Aland apparatus with the notation h.a., but this notation is not used nearly as often as should, for example none of the omissions in Luke are noted as possible homoioarcton errors).
