'''Minuscule 196''' (in the [[Biblical manuscript#Gregory-Aland|Gregory-Aland]] numbering), Z<sup>ε23</sup> ([[Biblical manuscript#Von Soden|Soden]]), is a [[Greek language|Greek]] [[Lower case|minuscule]] [[manuscript]] of the [[New Testament]], on parchment. [[Paleography|Paleographically]] it had been assigned to the 12th century.<sup>[1]</sup> 

== Description ==

The codex contains a complete text of the four [[Gospel]]s on 369 thick parchment leaves (size 24.6 cm by 18.4 cm).<sup>[1]</sup> Written in one column per page, 44 lines per page, biblical text in red, commentary's text in black ink.<sup>[2]</sup> 

The text of Matt 15:10-17:22 is written on paper, in 27 lines per page.<sup>[2]</sup> It contains prolegomena, lists of κεφαλαια, κεφαλαια, τιτλοι, pictures.<sup>[3]</sup> The biblical text is surrounded by a [[Catena (Biblical commentary)|catena]]. The biblical text is written in red ink, the catena text in black.<sup>[3]</sup>

The Greek text of the codex is a representative of the [[Byzantine text-type]]. [[Kurt Aland|Aland]] placed it in [[Categories of New Testament manuscripts#Category V|Category V]].<sup>[4]</sup>

== History ==

The manuscript once belonged to Lorenzo de Midicis, who presented it in 1473 to the Convent of S. Marco de Florentia des Predigerordens.<sup>[2]</sup> 

It was examined by [[Giuseppe Bianchini|Bianchini]], [[Andrew Birch|Birch]], [[Johann Martin Augustin Scholz|Scholz]], and [[Dean Burgon|Burgon]]. 

It is currently housed at the [[Laurentian Library]] (Plutei. VIII. 12), at [[Florence]].<sup>[1]</sup>
